Half time: Palmy Boys 15 (5 penalties) - 17 (3 tries, one con) Hastings

One of the Hastings' locks went down injured at the end of the half, too.

Hastings is clearly the better team, but their ill-discipline and the ref are keeping Palmy in the game. Very frustrating.

Interesting to hear from the commentators that Mefi Tupou is only year 11. Cooper Flanders is year 11, too. Great for next year.

Some of the wrong calls from the ref come from the AR.

Hastings lock (no 4) given the blue card (head knock).

Thankfully, the Palmy fullback misses his penalty kick.

Great try from the Hastings fullback Hodge. Converted by Ah Kiong. It's 24 - 15 to Hastings Boys. 47 minutes played.

Hopefully they pull away at half time. My mate is a ref if Palmy and usually goes to these games (he usually runs the subs etc) - I've text him to see what's up but no response yet.

And Hastings are on a roll now! Ah Kiong brilliantly catches a high ball, offloads, and Mefi Tupou scores his 3rd try!

    31 - 15 to Hastings after 53 minutes.

Wow, Hastings now get the penalties. Except that they don't kick for goal, but for touch. Another line-out close to the Palmy try line. Come on boys!

Thompson-Dunn is such a good player! I hope he already has an academy contract and doesn't leave like those other Thompsons.

    Try!! From the reserve halfback!

FT: Palmerston Nth BHS 15 - 45 Hastings BHS

HBHS: Crichton, Tupou 3x, Hodge 2x, Varcoe tries; Ah Kiong 3x, Thompson-Dunn 2x cons

Hastings Boys are going to the Top 4. They'll play Hamilton again on Friday. Let's hope it will be 3rd time lucky!

Yep, impressive second half, keeping Palm Nth scoreless.

Other semi-final is Kings v Nelson.

Palmerston North's points were scored from penalties only. Hastings didn't let them cross the try line!

Seriously hoping Hastings Boys can do something about their discipline, step up and beat Hamilton in their 3rd encounter of the year.

It's quite interesting that all three schools representing the Hurricanes region at the Top 4 are not from Wellington. The Girls and Co-ed schools are from Manawatu and the Boys from Hawke's Bay.

In 2015, a Wellington school (Scots) made the Boys Top 4 for the last time.

Hurricanes schools in the Boys top 4 since 2000 (winners in bold):
    2000: Gisborne Boys
    2001: Napier Boys
2002: Napier Boys (drawn with Rotorua in the Final)
2003: Napier Boys (lost the Final to Rotorua)
    2004: Hastings Boys
    2005: Palmy Boys
    2006: Gisborne Boys
    2007: Gisborne Boys
    2008: Wellington Coll
    2009: Napier Boys
    2010: Gisborne Boys
    2011: Napier Boys
    2012: Napier Boys
    2013: Wellington College
2014: Scots College (drawn with Hamilton Boys in the Final)
2015: Scots College (lost the Final to Rotorua Boys)
2016: Hastings Boys (lost the Final to Mt Albert Grammar)
    2017: Hastings Boys
2018: Napier Boys (lost the Final to St Peter's College)
    2019: Hastings Boys ????
