@KiwiMurph Cool early evening game at (spit) Semenoff Stadium round 12, that'll be good to go with the kids!

SUPER RUGBY 2020 MATCH SCHEDULE RELEASED

The 2020 Super Rugby match schedule has been released by SANZAAR.

The tournament will kick-off with two derbies on Friday 31 January. The Blues will host the Chiefs at Eden Park in Auckland while later the same evening the Brumbies will host the Reds at GIO Stadium in Canberra.

Super Rugby's continued international footprint will see matches played in six countries across the 18-week regular season, with matches played in Argentina, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa.

The World Rugby international Test match window for inbound matches/tours to Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa is now in July so this allows Super Rugby to be played uninterrupted across the 21-week tournament timeframe (including the three-week Finals series).

Canes start in S.A again and Buenos Aires for round 2, before facing the Sharks at home.

    Talk about a brutal start.

I suppose having that trip early brings the guys together and it allows us to spend most of our time at home leading into the business end of the comp.

The Hurricanes only home game not yet allocated (to Wellington) is the Sunwolves game. Typical; the shittiest game may go to the provinces. But don't worry, fans will happily take it. Not sure whether Napier Council will, though.

@KiwiMurph so that's 4 weeks training in December. They usually report back the 2nd week of the new year so week beginning 6th Jan.
Give they usually have 2 preseason games that means just 1 week of training in Jan before the preseason stuff.
    Only a 5 week preseason

What do you guys think of those earlier kick-off times, particularly 7.05pm on a Friday?

@Machpants first time we had a proper game up here in a long while, not to mention the Jaguares being a quality team.

Like the kick off time too.

I think Mr. Semenoff is out to try change public perception, his name on the team jersey and the stadium...not sure how that will go down, he has always been a polarising person at the best of times.

fucking shithouse! Because for half the season that is 4pm here, which means i either knock off reeeaaaalllly early, or miss the whole game.

Which is why i watch so little Super rugby now. Because i am only really in place for the night game on a friday, and who really wants to watch an Australian game?

I was about to complain ... but I don't work on Fridays so that's irrelevant to me although the sun will be streaming in during that time and I hate closing the blinds. TBH, I much prefer Aussie times for NZ matches as I can head out for dinner when they finish.

Remember that survey they did a while back. It was posted here so we could add our feedback.

I guess that this is a result of it.

@Crucial That survey was about the Mitre 10 Cup, not Super Rugby

I still haven’t got used to the kick off time for friday games being 7:30pm in Nz after moving over here a couple of years ago. I always go to sit down on the sofa and turn the game at 5:30 and realise i have another 2 hours to wait.

The best Fridays are when it's a match in NZ at 5:30pm and then a NZ team is playing in Oz at 7:30pm - although I have to Uber eats or deliveroo for dinner on those nights.

January is way too early for Super Rugby. Why does it need to start so early? Worst thing is it comes off the back of a world cup where players need more rest.

@hydro11 Yep. The consequence of the early start will be that most ABs won't be available for the first few rounds of SR. Exactly what we didn't like about SR this year (unavailability of the best players), will happen again in the beginning of next season.

Press release I saw said the early starts is offset by a longer than usual off season because of the RWC.

The early start is weird and probably going to be a failure (ratings wise) but given the choice between the early start or the international break I'd take the early start.

All academic next year when the format changes.

@Stargazer Unless we are knocked out in the q.finals - then they could be on holiday from October 21st!
Even if we make the final on Nov 2 they have nearly 3 months until the Jan 31 start. Its not like a northern tour that goes into December.
