They really should know that - and that they have an Apple TB app so that you don't have to cast anyway.
ATV app is only for Gen4 onwards ATVs.
In theory though older ATVs should still be able to function like a Chromecast using AirPlay. Considering the numbers of older ATV units still around you would think the answer as to whether it will work should be in the CRM notes for agents to respond to questions.

I already have an ATV and a firestick and don't want a chromecast or a new TV just for them.In case you’re still wondering I just dug out an old Gen2 ATV and cast via airplay from my iPad with no issues at all. Funnily though I couldn’t locate any way to release the cast from within the iPad app. Usually the have an icon you can press and bring up an airplay menu but couldn’t see one.

Oh, when going via chrome you can adblock the in stream ads but need to unlock the UI elements (full screen, advance, rewind etc). Seems to work nicely.

OK I accept my POV is coloured by the fact I had no issues on Saturday night but I do think there's been a massive over-reaction to Sparks problems.
I mean anytime there's any fucking drizzle about there's a high probability you'll lose your Sky feed. Spark also did have a Plan B in place and initiated it although it seems that they have communicated this better.
SKY have been treating their customers with arrogant disdain for decades. Spark have introduced some competition and oh shit all of a sudden there's 10 "free" SKY sports channels.
I do have enormous sympathy for anyone who can't or couldn't get to see the game live and wanted to but I'm fully supportive of Spark upsetting the cosy monopoly Sky enjoyed and think there's been a predictable response from the media whipping up hysteria.
I get "880,00 Spark viewers really happy" isn't going to grab the headlines but I do think Sky have played the MSM.

Yep - it's a perspective thing. New and Scary means anything less than perfect has the media frothing at the mouth ... while Sky dropping out from time to time is just part of the service.
The fail where I was on Saturday was annoying but not consequential -we didn't lose any of the game, just paused for 2-3 seconds and then dropped quality.

Well I was pissed off. Been waiting for that match for 4 years and had to wait an extra hour (didn't know it was on Duke). It was a tense hour around the house. The cat left, the dog hid under the bed, the wife wanted to leave but was chained up in the kitchen.
What I really don't like about streaming is trying to fast forward or rewind. It's clunky and hard to find what you are looking for. Time isn't that easy to use as a guide, pictures are. I rewind a lot during a match so that I can criticise referees with "facts" later.
I haven't lost Sky for ages due to "rain fade" - I do have shit internet though and Spark was not good. Netflix and lightbox work fine. It is no surprise that people are annoyed. I signed up early due to not being scared of "new and scary". I just don't like paying for stuff that is shit.

I agree with what your saying about Spark's competition suddenly leading to Sky introducing extra channels and offering more content, but free? Nope, I pay for them.

This! I missed the beginning of the Wales v Georgia game and tried to go back 5 - 10 minutes to see the game from the beginning without watching the long chit-chat from the studio panel before it. I couldn't find the beginning of the game and ended up missing most of the first half because of it.

Actually, it hasn't been too bad so far - the main thing I miss is having the TV running in the background or flicking across to see how the game is going for most of the minnow games. The Oz/Fiji game was something I would have liked to have the option to start paying more attention to.There's a relatively small handful of pool games I'm actually interested to watch from start to finish (Scotland/Ireland was one and I got it for free).
I watched Argentina-France at my bros place and drove home to watch the ABs game on delay. He was complaining about the app being clunky to rewind and messing about with it.
In some ways, that's a more significant fail than a bit of picture break-up, which they'll presumably manage to fix in time.
The real question for streaming is how will they make it better than conventional TV over time? At the moment, seems like the consensus is that it's a slightly worse experience (much worse if you live where you don't have adequate infrastructure). What are they going to be able to add over the next 10 years that will make it better than conventional TV?
Because if it's just driving somewhere in a diesel vs a petrol car then it's a somewhat pointless advance. And even if it offers more competition in the marketplace, that's not necessarily going to help me much if it makes it any more difficult than Sky's push button remote for me to watch rugby, cricket cycling and the Olympics - which is pretty much the sport I want to watch and I'm not particularly worried by the amount Sky charges me to watch it.
However, if someone wants to battle through all the IP issues and set themselves up as the sort of Trivago of sports streaming, I'd imagine you'll eventually make a few billion - in which case flick me a percentage point of the cash for the suggestion.

@Chris-B my 6 year old boy has absolutely 0 interest in Sky or conventional TV as he's not able to just pick and choose what he watches and when. Unless it's sport he can't get his head around the idea of waiting for a TV programme to come on. The on-demand access without having to record everything is a significant point of difference, especially for the younger generation.
Also as @nzzp says screen agnosticism is a big plus too, especially for families who can't agree what to watch. I've often streamed the cricket on my Laptop while doing the BBQ while the family watches other uninteresting crap on TV.

@No-Quarter I guess I'm talking specifically about watching live sport, where you have to wait for it to be on - and I'm wondering what they're going to be able to add to the experience.
Perhaps it will be fern comments flashing into the game feed in real time?

That's me too. My preference is always to watch sport and movies/TV shows on a big screen. The only time I would use the iPad or computer is out of necessity, not because I want to. Fark watching a whole game on a phone.
