Works out well for an England team potentially without Billy V and Farrell.

It effectively gives them two weeks off to prepare for the crunch games. They will be the freshest team going into the knockouts which is kind of ironical considering all the pre wc talk was about how fatigued England were going to be come semifinal time.

They're still going to lose to Australia 🙂

Doubt it. The Wallabies haven't beaten England since 2015 so I question if they can overcome that self doubt that surely must exist. Would be fantastic if it happened though.

Australia have one really good game in them.

It's either this one or the SF 😉

Perhaps they used it up in Perth?

Rumours that at least one of this weekend's games is going to be called off:

@taniwharugby Yeah, my thoughts exactly. WR should really stop changing the rules all the time. It's confusing enough as it is; if they keep on changing the rules, nobody knows what they are anymore. I actually feel sorry for the refs.

    You're Michael Cheika?

Had it on good authority the England v France match will go ahead in an alternative location.

    Hold the phone.

Now looks like moving the match to a different venue is not feasible or safe.

    So looks like it's cancelled.

Yokohama Stadium, the venue of the England-France game, has a capacity 20,000 more than any other stadium. Even allowing for the logistics of moving the teams, officials etc to an alternative stadium, what about the 20,000 unhappy fans who won't be able to attend the match now?

What about the 72,000 unhappy fans who won't be able to attend the match now?

And yes, I'm aware it may not be possible but either way there will be unhappy fans - many more with a complete cancellation.

@mofitzy_ My comment was around moving the game, which is not feasible based on a number of factors, including ground capacity. To me, the decision can only be cancellation or postponement.

Why not postpone and play the game at the same venue after the cyclone has passed. Plenty of other teams have had to endure a four day gap between matches so it is do-able on such a short turnaround.

Looking unlikely they will postpone it either. A massive shame for the tournament.

Postponement for a Pool match is against the rules of the Tournament

Given the predicted path, I don't see how they have an option but to cancel Scotland vs Japan - the typhoon will be over the stadium.

It's unfortunate, but Scotland would've expected to be second in the pool, not facing the conundrum of Ireland doing a Brighton.

Yep, if you can't play the game that evening, it's a 0-0 draw.

This also means we get to keep Ireland's quarter final record intact.

Imagine if you are Scotland, gearing up for a massive game vs the host country which puts you in the running for a quarter final and you are told: Pack it up boys, you are going home.

    Shambles.
