Good odds available on this match.

Ireland 5/1 to win is worth a scoot.

Overall to win the thing -
    Japan - 48/1
    France - 42/1
    Australia - 28/1
    Ireland - 23/1

Ireland will win if our forwards are not fully engaged, if our kick return game is poor and if we have a ref who bins our players or allows them to play offside and slow our ruck ball down illegally.

So essentially the Lions recipe. We wait on the referee appointments in the next 24 hours, unless it's Owens it is hard to see it being anyone other than Barnes or a Frenchman so all those things are absolutely in play.

      I'd be happy with Barnes.

He's developed into a pretty decent Ref these days, is consistent and communicates well.

We'll win the rugby but only just (under 7 points). Ireland will win the whinging convincingly.

A one point win will do.

I think Furlong, Healy (possibly), Ryan and Stockdale will make it. On a wet day, perhaps Sexton over Richie.

I would add Connor Murray as well.

Wayne Barnes will referee one of the Quarter Finals. A one in three chance it will be this one.

Hansen knows this Irish team very well now.

Last year in Dublin New Zealand were at the end of a hard season and had a tough game against the English.

They will be fresh and well prep'd. I can see them sucking the Irish in the centre of the park, forcing them to commit players to the ruck, then hitting them out wide. I hope I'm wrong, obviously, but I can see a pretty big scoreline for the AB's.

                    This is it.

Also, if they keep us to 9 points again, they deserve to win.

Frame it from an Irish perspective - they need parity or dominance up front, and a ref who listens and rules the way they want to play. I reckon our tight 5 will show up fired up and get the job done.

From what I have seen so far in this Cup, there will be a whole lot of noise and build up and then we will put 20 points on them.

Ireland do not generally put up big scores against quality opposition. They also do not have a game suited to chasing down a score. Our wingers need to be prepared for a bombardment. I’m not too fussed about losing possession stats to Ireland but we mustn’t hand them easy territory. If they have to score points not involving penalty kicks or rolling mauls/pick n go from 5m out then they will struggle.

I reckon our tight 5 will show up fired up and get the job done.

                                    can't wait!

Yup. It's one thing to ambush us at home on the end of year tour. This is the big game, we won't hold back and I feel we are building nicely

You think last November was an ambush?

                                    Jeez.

So Ireland have flown out a legal beagle to get Aki off. What is the standard penalty for a high shot and red card?

Not an ambush, but we played really poorly. We weren't allowed to play well, but we really didn't cope with the rush defence, and our forwards were really really passive.

This is what's so tasty though - has Hansen worked out a counter to the Irish rush and grinding style? Japan Wales and England have shown templates on how to beat them ... not we have to see if we can manage the same thing.

Ireland play smart rugby, but it's not inspiring and it's got all the elements of why people didn't like England back in the day. Low risk, percentage rugby, relying on grinding penalties and only chancing the arm under penalty advantage. Effective for some time, but from a neutral perspective not that exciting

That's what I thought. I guess they figure the lawyer might be able to do some kind of deal. It will be a bad look if they do, especially in light of the hardline they have taken with others
