In all seriousness Messam was unlucky with the timing of his injury as he was meant to play vs Namibia and then wasn't available until the last pool game vs Tonga. Once Hansen decided to go with Cane and another loose forward in the reserves that was always going to be Vito with his greater height in the lineout. Hansen had a plan for the tournament, for example, Mealamu never started a game and only played a maximum of 20 mins off the bench.

It looked that way to me. Didn't look natural at all but Mitchell had knocked on by then so nothing doing.

In the subsequent scrum, the whole Wallabies back five disintegrated and became unbound, but no penalty advantage was played, which I thought was very weird, though it would have been advantage over, as NMS made quite a few metres before the Beale intercept.

There were a couple of other scrums that went down, but I think Owens just wanted to get on with the game and called the side with the ball to use it.

You guys didn't get the rub of the green from the officials. Probably not game changing but I'd still find it fucking annoying if it was my side.
 
You've shown remarkably good grace. As did Noddy Lynagh on the box here in the UK. Commendable.

While I think that the Oz fans on here have shown good grace I can't agree that they didn't get the rub of the green from the officials. The very fact that Kepu remained on the field for the whole game suggests they were getting a rub.

I had a funny feeling about that Kuridrani try so watched the Sky back on slo mo. Sure enough Foley is ahead of the kicker when Genia punts the ball forward. Not much in it, but Owens should have reviewed it.

They were in front of the kicker on the first kickoff and at least one other time as well. Problem was that Foley overkicked those restarts so the forwards couldn't take advantage

I don't mind scrums that go down just getting the ball the fuck out. That's what they're for - restarting play.
 
 
We were long odds to get that close against the AB team so at that point, and given the basket case that was Australian Rugby the last year, getting to the final was somewhat of a relief... Exceeding expectations I guess.
 
I just hope WR have learned something about the way in which they applied certain changes at RWC time instead of finding a way to phase them in. Reminds me of 1999 when they decided there was no pre-gripping for lineouts, and only then on the shorts (which was unsafe).
 
 
As for Noddy, I just read his book Blindsided. Good insight to a rugby goal kicker, and his views on life post-stroke.

It's obviously academic now. But I'd wager they had the harsher end of the deal from the officials. By some distance as well.

We were debating it over at GAGR while picking through the bones yesterday Foxtel Play was running the replay (think they did it back-to-back all day yesterday) and I grabbed it while I was there.
 
The other gold jersey I thought was Foley but I think its Mitchell, and he was retreating at the time.

Nick that photo actually makes it look very close if you take the perspective into account. Without knowing the camera angle/zoom etc, just carry the angle of that line marking back to the kicker and Foley is ahead. 
I'm not saying that is the case, as we don't have an indication of what angle that line should actually be, but your photo certainly doesn't prove he is behind either.

I'd take that wager. 10 minutes without a prop makes a big difference to how a team goes.

The main bits I used to check Foley were the 5m line marker versus 15m line marker (Owens partially obscurces the latter) but also the mowing line you can see running through the ruck (dark grass versus slightly lighter grass). Foley is further from the darker grassed area.
 
I tried to use the 40m line, but because of parallax effect it doesn't actually sit correctly on the right side of the picture. I cut off the extreme right side of the picture when taking the screen shot.

I thought there 2 decisions that went our way in the first half, the forward pass and the missed knock-on. They happened pretty close to each other, and just as we were really starting to get momentum on the park and the scoreboard - not saying they caused the momentum because neither led directly to anything of substance, but the timing made it worse. Aside from that, I don't think we got any rub of the green, the rest was fairly balanced with a few arguments from both sides for unclear offenses.
 
No way Foley was in front, forget the stills and go back to the video, he was totally fine.

Jeez guys can we let the reffing go? It's a bit sad. You won, deservedly. Each side can point to places where they feel hard done by. That's rugby.
 
This business of raking through decisions and non-decisions with a fine tooth comb just gets in the way of talking about the 30 blokes that really mattered.
