Heading over to Manly for the two RWC games to watch with my mate - we were flatting together for the 2015 RWC in Manly so hopefully that success will continue. I assume he'll throw some meat on the BBQ. I don't drink when I watch big matches because I hate not being 100% for them.

Will watch the Magpies game at home before heading over the bridge.

Will also be in Manly, but at my mates little pub - 6pm with the whole fam for dinner to watch England v Aus, the oldest lad staying on for the big dance.

I certainly do drink during games, but I'll watch the replay the next day sober to see what I missed, and where I made a fool of myself by ranting about something that didn't actually happen.

What pub does he own/run? Not that I'd go there to watch and stalk you 😉 as I hate watching rugby at pubs. Just for future reference for my Manly mates.

He is a part owner of Hawkebury Brewing Company. Make beer, RTD's, wine now. They have a little pub on Belgrave St, showing all the RWC games.

    All welcome!

Cool, I'll let my mates know of it's existence (if they don't already know) - @dK is (I assume still is) a local so he might ad it to his list of Manly pubs.

Got some mates coming, have a busy day with birthday parties. Settle into couch with some tasty craft beer, try not to get too slammed too quickly. Avoid drinking firewater with my Czech mate (and probably lose).

Can't wait! Going to be awesome... have cleared my calendar Monday morning so Sunday can be fun as well

Saturday 2.04 pm - go into cupboard

Sunday 1am - come out of cupboard - check scores.

            @mariner4life It's a cupboard, not a closet.

I don't need all that space to huddle in the foetal position! Just a bit of room for gentle rocking!

As I have said elsewhere my brother flies in Saturday lunchtime. I expect we will have a few quiets at home and then wander to the pub (7 mins walk) by about 3:30. Time zones will really work against me and whilst I like to give it a nudge I can't keep up nowadays. Not helped by the fact that he drinks Steinie and I'm on 7% craft beers. We drink 1.8 litre jugs at about 2/hr so I figure I'm in for a world of hurt.

My brother doesn't really do food but I'm guessing after the England game he will suddenly decide to try and get into the Mexican across the road - which we won't be able to so we will (having lost our space at the bar) grab a takeaway curry and rush back down the hill to my place where I will at least be able to pace myself.

He likes to talk all through a game and most of what he says is WRONG so that will piss me off.

I have to be at work (briefly) at 8:00 on Sunday - I expect to be feeling pretty seedy. I'll get back and he will want to hit the bars again in preparation for the next round of games.

He's here 10 days!! Fortunately I have minor surgery on Tuesday which I am going to use to justify a slow down. It also means I'm off work recovering (in more ways than one) until after Labour weekend.

the things we do for sport.....

None of that sounds fun. Even the Ab game sounds spoiled.

Out of curiosity, how come you can't drink lower alcohol beers, like a 4-5 percenta??

I had my yearly reminder last weekend why I don't drink spirits so I can't see myself falling for that old gag two weekends in a row on a boys golf trip.

@Hooroo Its a very mainstream bar. I'm not a beer snob but I can't enjoy the big mass produced beers any more. I guess I could go Panhead which is only 5.8 which will help.

Drinking vast amounts of beer is a family tradition. Our old man had a minimum of 12 jugs / day - 7 days week for over 50 years - somehow. It's not the actual alcohol that kills me as I get older its the sheer volume. I like to have maybe 4 or 5 pints over a couple of hours and that's it but my bro is a binge drinker with plenty of practice and really only likes beer.

Ms DM will stay at her place as she just can't handle the drinking even though she likes the footy - so although she's understanding about it being my brother and all I'll have a fair bit of guilt laid on me as well.

None of the above will bother me at all for the first few hours. I'm hoping the sweet spot before I get totally bloated lasts until the footy is over, but Sunday at 7:00 a.m. shudder

I'm hoping the sweet spot before I get totally bloated lasts until the footy is over, but Sunday at 7:00 a.m. shudder

@dogmeat Why don't you drink 4% session ales? 8 Wired's Semiconductor is much better than anything Panhead produces.

Your post is playing on my mind more than it should.

I think I'm more like your brother (but not at that volume and rate) and you're more like my brothers (again less volume and rate too)

When they have a beer they just tell me straight up that they won't be matching me one for one as they don't want to be a cripple the next day and I never have a problem with that.

Can't you do that? Just say you will go at your own pace!

I WANT YOU TO ENJOY THE RUGBY GODDAMMIT!! 🙂 ha ha

@Hooroo mate thanks for your sympathy.

Your's is a very good plan and one I will likely go out to implement but then :clinking_beer_mugs: :face_savouring_delicious_food:

TBH I do let him have 3 to my two as the night draws on.

Yeah well pretty much a standard spring saturday so...

                                          • net session with the lad in the morning
                                          • home for a coffee and finish off the days form before loading a handful of long winded multi bets
                                          • arvo at home pretending to do odd jobs around the house, lawns etc while really knocking back beers and punting on anything with 4 legs and a long nose running around caulfield or randwick and if I'm struggling that morphetville or eagle farm might get some attention too.
                                          • 530/6pm usually end with a couple of boys from next door turning up to get their kids home for dinner but end up having a beer or three while I spout about the sport of kings and how good spring racing is. Make them stay for the last leg of a multi.
                                          • potentially angry bbq around 630pm following my lack of belief of a redzel three-peat
                                          • settle in to a bit of england vs aus between blowing the last of my cash on the wizard of the west at ascot
                                          • AB's game - probably on the couch with me and my nerves being comforted by abusive texts from aus mates and/or UK family (depending on outcome of previous game)

                                          Yeah same old saturday really
