Weather forecast - warm but rainy.

    Will Ireland handle it?

It's cold compared to last week and the start of the tourney. I had to wear a long-sleeved jersey to work today for the first time this year, so I imagine the Irish will be loving it compared to earlier. If it is 22 degrees, then that is warmish, but not hot by any means.

I guess we will have to wait and see if Hugh Middity is named in the team. He got the blame for the loss to Japan so I suspect they won't select him again.

    Underrated joke.

Justin Marshall has assumed the role of Fitzy v2 by calling the Irish laborious (a big word for him) and predictable. He gives the Irish little chance of winning.

Wonder why he thinks Nz will be thinking , they don’t need to play at their best to win and will be looking ahead to the semi.

Considering Ireland beat them last time they played I wouldn’t have thought that , if anything the opposite.

Last time I saw this much confidence here was just before the Aussies smashed us to bits.

Ireland are a good side, who lack depth at 10. We seem to think they're shit now because they were beaten by Japan and thumped by England before the WC. But both games no Sexton. You can't play 10 man rugby without a 10.
They whipped Scotland and looked good against Samoa - they're not a spent force and they've beaten us 2 out of last 3. The Dublin game was one which we targeted to get payback for the first loss, and we scored 9 points and were well beaten.
Now I see Coles in the Herald saying 'we haven't talked about what happened last time'. Sounds a bit too much like Cheika not worrying about the opposition to me.

As for us, our best forward is underdone, and our reserve scrummaging has looked a bit shaky. I don't think Cane is back to his best, and we lack the grunt to bend set defensive lines. We have beaten South Africa, and had a couple of pretty meaningless cakewalks vs minnows, that's all. There's obviously a lot of potential in the Mounga Barrett axis, but I don't consider it proven under pressure just yet, and we have inexperienced wings who we know will be targeted in the air. Our centre has been out injured and the 12-13 combo lacks match time together.
                  Underdogs, clearly.

Glad we have Owens compared to some other options, but he's been below his usual high standards this cup, letting too much go at the breakdown and offside line which will suit the Irish. He is however the least likely to give a panicky dodgy shit red card.

Bro, even if they defeat Dormammu, Grandmaster and Surfur, they still will say it’s not enough.

He may allow the game to flow more ,open running rugby will suit us down to the ground obviously,

They want a stop start borefest, but they can’t say that , it sounds too negative and against what is good for the game

Stop start borefest? Was the game in Dublin last November a borefest? Ignoring the outcome of the result, I think any rugby fan would have thought that was a great game to watch.

Feel like it could be a very busy day for our backrow - Cane needs to get the better of Van der Flop and make sure he can't flop all over our ball. Savea needs to increase his chat and get in Nige's ear before his opposite number, Peter O'Moan-ey. Similarly, Read needs to win the running metres battle over his opposite, CJ Sub-Standard.

They want a stop start borefest, but they can’t say that , it sounds too negative and against what is good for the game

Stop start borefest? Was the game in Dublin last November a borefest? Ignoring the outcome of the result, I think any rugby fan would have thought that was a great game to watch.

Depends who you were supporting ...

@The-irishman as @MajorRage points out. This was only exciting if you were supporting Ireland, or desparately hoping the All Blacks lost.

The game itself was no spectacle and slowed down to a defence oriented slug fest.

It was no Japan v Scotland.

@reprobate out of interest, what does the RM/BB axis have to do to be proven?

I'd say that if we beat Ireland well, that'd do it. Our results since starting it haven't been compelling, or in any way consistent, which you kind of expect with a new pattern.
I do really like the pattern (esp live where you can see the double fullback defense) and can see it working well, but I would like to see us unlock another strong defence with it before having too much confidence. I think the Italian game would have been a super handy extra run for it too, especially with goodhue having been out.
