@ACT-Crusader said in RWC: Japan v South Africa (QF 4):

4th time tonight that Barnes has told the Boks to use the ball after the maul stalls and the Boks are able to keep it in there longer.

"Immediately" is the least used term in the Law book

@Tim and while you at it. How did he not review the tip tackle. Decided it's only yellow with what he's view from how many metres away

@Rebound He hit him in the head in the air. It was bad.

Barnes is often a poor ref IMO. But he started this game by missing two clear knock-ons from Japan, and SA's game style is close to the what his reffing typically favours.

@Rebound He should've reviewed both. It was very bad refereeing.

Great tournament Japan. A side that will be remembered for a very long time.

Not sure this result means much except confirming South Africa are full of big units who like to hit people hard.

Thanks Japan. You made my tournament.

Is it possible for the Beast to be cited for that tackle even if it was just a YC?

Never took his eyes of the ball tho.

At right angles the danger is greater than in a line for contesting ball in the air.

Mapimpi mistimed his jump as well. What can you do?

@Tim hence I said he reminded me why he's a shit ref. He gave the Boks a penalty at scrum because Japan prop buts hand on floor. A few scrums later Boks looseleaf does the same thing yet Bok penalty. To me that's a clear biased

Absolutely. For any offence that isn't even penalised eg Hodge

He's on hands and knees, with at least 2 players hanging on to him. That's held.

Only need a hand on him to be held. He releases the ball: play on

Yeah, but.. I've seen plenty like this one let go too.

Like I said somewhere else: want consistency? Don't watch Rugby 😉

I don't want consistency, Nick. I want my position to be viewed as correct, regardless, and supported by the officials. Is that too much to ask? 😏

@ACT-Crusader that's going to be the pointer. Same with Welsh guy is they get cited. What does it say about the two refs

Was that the one when he was saying the penalty was for the loosehead going to ground when the loosehead on the side that went to ground was the South African one?

Thanks Japan. You made my tournament.

    Fxxkin' loved it.
And loved the reaction of the players... it wasn't “shit, we're so happy to be here”... it was “shit, we were this close to being in the semi”.
Not even a thought of not being a serious contender.
You beautiful magnificent little bastards... good play.

I hope SANZAAAAAAR and World Rugby follow this up, it would be a desperate shame to have a nominally tier two host with their economic power top their pool and unite a nation so well to fuck it all up.

    Mission accomplished by the Boks.
Despite Barnes trying his best to keep Japan in the game.
He can piss right off. You don’t ref for the home favorite underdog. You fucking ref the game without giving one team the constant benefit of the doubt.

    Rant done.

Well done to Japan for a good run in the tournament.
