It's all in the performance (if you're good enough) otherwise it's in the resale. I'd stab people for a 911 GT3 RS 4.0

    That's not hyperbole.

    I've never understood the appeal of the GT2 / GT3 911's.

They are beautifully balanced cars in their natural form, and all that is being done is removing a lot of the comfort and drivability on the roads and adding 20-50k to the list price.

Caveat - never driven or been in one!

Bring your grandpa nappy because it will make you....😎

I found it handled well enough on normal roads (as a passenger that is), but get it on some open road and it’s a crazy experience. The kick from still is unrivalled and I’ve been fortunate enough to have driven and be in many different super/luxury cars.

@Catogrande my mates is the same as in this video

I think it's the resale myself.

Struggle to see how the kick can be stronger than the cheaper, more comfortable Turbo S which I have been in. Basic states are 0-100 at 3.2 for the RS and 3.0 for the Turbo S.

Each to their own though, obviously.

I’ve never driven a patrol but a mates had a short wheelbase Y60 for about 20 years and I don’t think he’ll ever sell it . Those patrols and cruisers were built in the greatest era of Japanese cars, all the manufacturers had loads of cash to throw around .

Thanks @MajorRage and @JC. I'm planning on paying cash, from a dealer, so thinking of going near quarter end on a Friday to try and haggle price down. Probably in September, as apparently convertibles trade cheaper going into winter (and SUVs higher, with the opposite occurring in Spring?).

    Any update?

I went to a Ferrari auction with a friend a couple of weeks back. A lot didn't sell, so I think the market has softened a bit.

Best value I think was a 2013 FF ex-owned by Jay Kay which barely broke 100k.

Will be around January time hopefully, you lot will be the first to know if it happens

Arranging with one of my in laws to take one of these for a spin:

    Home

325 hp in an 820kg car. The Caterham is 152 hp in 500kg. This should be hairy.

Pretty excited tonight. Going to take the new Vantage for a spin. Not really looking to buy it, but interested to see how it drives compared to the 911 (which they openly say it's pitched against).

Undeniably one of the best looking cars on the road though - especially in ragtop form.

    Epic motorsport weekend.

Attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed last Friday. It's a petrolhead's pilgrimage. Such a great day out full of non-stop things to do / see which one could only dream of. Two main highlights for me were watching Senna's F1 car go up the hill (loud, fucking loud) and seeing a Singer Porsche in the flesh for the first time. Absolute bucket list car if ever there was one, the attention to detail and the presentation of them is second to none. Just beautiful. Quite a electric-car focused area too and it was good to see a few Polestars in the flesh as well as the UK launch of Hyundais upper brand, Genesis. Additionally, they had the man who flies with the jetpack there (seriously loud) and the red arrows did a 20 min presentation. Quite the day.

Then yesterday, before the match, I managed to blag my way to a Ferrari challenge day at Snetteron race track. Got about 20 minutes drive time on track in a F8 Tributo. Absolutely incredible car, and hit a new top speed for me (157 mph) on the back straight. Mega day out. My bro--in-law took the new hybrid out, the SF90, and it was seriously quick. Lacking a bit of drama in my view but still one hell of a weapon.

So yeah, petrol head smiles for me for a while.

    @majorrage

    Great you enjoyed the day.

Went to Goodwood a few years back where Honda flew in some of their classic GP bikes from the '60's and "raced" them. Insane in some ways to risk damage to historical racing bikes but great that these machines aren't gathering dust.

Yeah, there were lots of old classics going full beans up the hill which was insane. A guy had a 1914 racing bentley sideways around Molecamb. Nuts!!

At the Ferrari day yesterday there we people racing 328 / 348 / 355. Hate to see the running budget of those!

Friend of mine when I lived in Nth Oxfordshire had a 348. He had it serviced by one of the mechanics at Brawn Racing/Mercedes F1 up the road in Brackley which he said made owning it economically viable. He swapped it for a Honda NSX due to running costs.

And to think I need to choose between a Skoda Octavia Hatch or Estate...
