There will be plenty of interest for Pochettino's services in Spain and at Bayern Munich.

Expect the likes of Eriksen to be queuing up to leave in January.

We have four first team players running down their current deals including Eriksen and Aldewiereld. 25 points from his last 24 league games is unacceptable. And he looked clueless as to where to go to turn things around. Sadly he had to go.

@canefan It's amazing that Spurs were on the edge of the title race with a trip to Burnley where they could have been right in contention with a win - and they have had relegation form since then. Getting to the Champions League final and being sacked a few months later is right up there with Leicester winning the title and Ranieri being sacked

The only way it works is if Mourinho realizes his reputation has taken a hit and he wants to make a comeback. Can't see it myself, he hasn't won without a star studded squad since Porto, and that feels like a lifetime ago

This could end badly, but the way I see it, he picks up a team in 14th place with a bunch of the better players clamouring to leave. As well as Pochettino did, and he was excellent, he never won anything for us. Furthermore he and the team seemed to stumble in the big games. This is high risk high reward stuff from Daniel Levy, if nothing else it is a statement of intent. I hope we don't get the ManU version of Jose but considering he was run out of his last 2 (or did RM make it 3?) stops, we might be looking for another manager in a couple of years

@canefan I will be surprised if Mourinho last two years. He's never developed a team. Is Levy really going to change the habit of a lifetime and loosen the purse strings - and if so why not for Poch?

Two extremely strong my way or highway characters...

I think Spurs will improve but that's because the quality of the side deserves to be higher than 14th but that would happen under (almost) anyone.

I know Levy has wanted Jose for over a decade, but has he not noticed the guys seriously past his sell by date.

Fans loved Poch - can't see them taking to Mourinho's ultra boring football.

That is my thinking as well - Mourinho looked like a relic compared the big 3 (Klopp, Pep, Poch) in his days at MU despite spending a lot of money there. You can say Poch had a team of stars that were struggling but they weren't stars when they came to Spurs. Sure they will finish higher than 14th but they are only 3 points behind 5th.

I think there is a big risk it will end badly. And he will not finish his career at WHL. He would appear to be a spent force based on his ManU stint. However maybe he doesnt want to be remembered like that and is keen to show all the doubters they are wrong. I am sure that he realizes Levy won't be spending Abramovich money and I expect Levy is ready to spend a bit. Reports suggested that he was willing to spend during the last few windows but Pochettino couldn't find anyone suitable. For the first time I can remember in a long time we have a big name as coach. Hopefully the special one can be special again, win something, and be a little more successful than George Graham was for us

So players couldn't be wooed to WHL to play under a guy who seemed to have the genuine affection of his squad, was good at developing them and turning them into a team of over-achievers but they will be seduced by a divisive, histrionic show pony who as @KiwiPie said looks bereft of ideas on how to play the modern game....

@dogmeat yeah. He has the street cred that comes with winning lots of stuff but his reputation took a big hit at yanited. I read an interview with his fellow pundit Graeme Souness, he says JM was angry with how the whole yanited experience went and he is keen to show everyone. I certainly hope so. He won't have to deal with the shadow of fergie this time and the bar for success is set pretty low. If he wins a pot or two he will have done his job

Not really a low bar to be honest - the focus is on winning trophies only because they haven't won one recently. Let's see how happy the fans are if they miss out on the top 4 this season and next season but win the Carabao Cup ....

None. Anyone that wanted to leave because they thought the coach couldn't help them win a trophy will think again, for a little while at least

Levy now saying there's no money for winter transfers, so they'll have to make do.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have an interim manager. Perfect landing ground for Pochettino.

Mourinho on twice as much as Poch so Levy has obviously spent it all on him.

Goodness, that will mean the payout when they inevitably sack him will be enormous.

After a tumultuous week Spurs put on a cohesive structured display with good effort and intensity, some key players showed signs of life previously not seen, and we saw flashes of brilliant attack. Sure we faded badly but this was still a promising beginning

Could be. But watching the game we looked more like ourselves. Stories had been coming out during the week about how Poch had progressively lost the dressing room for a number of reasons since the UCL final. The team just looked happier and more together than it has all year. Whether it keeps up remains to be seen. I like that Jose kept wantaway Eriksen on the bench. Send him a signal that he can't say he wants to leave, mail games in and expect to start
