    @mariner4life He's jagged 36 test wickets....averaging just a fraction over 30.

    He's also averaging nearly 40 with the bat.

    He's pushing John Reid and Chris Cairns out of our all time team! 🙂

    Cairnsy will rig the vote

    Awful slip work from Taylor & Latham as they just let a catch go between them.

    Both of them could have caught it pretty comfortably.

    Colin jags Burns as well.

    Finishes his over - strolls into the outfield, digs Southee in the ribs - and goes, "Who's got the best bowling average now, Timmy"! 🙂

    Sub 30 average with the ball now...

    900 runs @ 39 and 37 wickets @ 29,
    Cairnsy who!

    Annoyingly for Tim, at the start of the test he had a sub-30 bowling average and Colin was slightly over 30.

    Now - if Tim concedes 4 more runs before he gets wicket, their positions will be reversed.

    What is wrong with Root in test cricket these days? Basically off the face of the bat to slip.

    STAT ATTACK

    Root is in his 87th test.

    After 29 tests he averaged 54.02.
    58 tests - 54.07
    87 tests - 47.60

    That's an average of 35.65 in that last set of 29 tests with just 3 tons.

    @KiwiPie 34 tests as captain at 40.18.

    Probably pretty highly correlated!

    Yeah, 5 an over too. An "holding" spinner...

    Looks like a few of us might have been right about that selection. Hopefully it all breaks up and he is of some use other than batting.

    Disappointed in the NZ attack today.
    It wasn't an attack. It was a NZ "bowl tidy"
    What the hell is the point of taking a new ball with two bowlers operating at 132km (Boult) and 128km (Southee) - I get it, its the end of the day, but fire it up. Get Wagner pinging it around.

    And don't get me started on Santners inclusion.

    Yes the pitch didn't have a lot, but Southee has been below par for ages. De Grandhomme was our best bowler today for christ-sake. Ridiculous.

    Whats more, flipped Sky to the Aussie - Pakistan test. Cummins after 18 overs still bowling at 138kmh.
    Hazlewood into his 19th - 135kmh. Starc at 140kmh - admittedly 15 overs.

    A good day out in the sun, and a classic grind of a test match day.

    The bowling attack was a very curious selection. Santner is a waste of a place in tests, and today was calling for someone like Ferguson who can actually bowl faster than military medium with the new (and old) ball.

    @westcoastie the difference with Aust. bowlers is they are all 6 foot 5 and can bowl good line and length. Our fasts are usually shorter guys who spray it around and get carted. If they were that good they would be dominating more in domestic cricket. Test cricket is often about not losing the match by being shit. You can come back into play with a good session here and there and by bowling well at the end of an innings. If we were being aggressive we would have cut Santner - he may come into play in the 2nd innings, but hard to see.
