    Lunch. 99 run lead.

Would be good to accelerate a bit.

Am not talking flailing but 16 runs in the opening hour is not exactly demonstrating intent.

Picked up a bit without risk in the second hour with 42.

Seems to me though best chance of a win is keep doing what we're doing, put a big lead on and rely on scoreboard pressure, and chase a small total in the last session tomorrow.

I don't thinks there's enough tome to get them out and chase a medium sized total.

While the batsmen are in, let them bat. There are still well over 2 days to go, so no real hurry. Declaring at drinks or so in the last session should give a good lead and plenty of time to bowl at them.

If that were true I would agree. Unfortunately this is day 4.

Might as well bat on and put England in 1/2 hour before tea.

Congrats Santner, well deserved tonne, and justifies his place in the team in doing so.

Just out of interest, what is the longest ever team innings in terms of overs faced?

This is a mammoth effort, 191 overs and counting

@NTA When NZ scored 543/3d vs WI in 1972 (in Georgetown) they batted for 268 overs.

In NZ, 220.3 overs vs Sri Lanka when scoring 671/4 in the 2nd innings in Wellington. This was the test that Crowe got 299.

Nope, all as a specialist batsman, free of the significant additional mental and physical fatigue of keeping wickets. The difference that tends to make is significant even with outliers like Andy Flower or Gilchrist who the rule-proving exceptions

Hats off to Watling and Santner, outstanding partnership that has put us in a really strong position. Now just need the bowlers to get pissy and create something out of the wicket.
