@Mokey Also my current squeeze is lactose intolerant, she has these special pills you can take now which counteracts lactose, meaning she just needs to knock back a pill or two and she can eat any dessert she wants without any problem. I assume they are in NZ too now

People are usually intolerant to lactose if their body doesn't produce enough Lactase. Lactase pills are a simple solution for most.

    Re: Coconut Yoghurt

The wife likes this but it's stupidly expensive in NZ for what it is so I have been making it for a fraction of the price.
I do use a spoonful of 'normal' live yoghurt as a starter which is cheap as I have that to hand anyway but you can also just buy biotic supplement capsules and use those.
I use Pams Coconut Cream at 99cents a tin. Once you have grown some good bacteria in it you need to thicken it. I use Arrowroot (tapioca starch) just as the commercial products do. You need to warm to about 66C (no more) and whisk in a teaspoon of Arrowroot, mixed with a little water, per can.
Way cheaper than the $11-12 a jar in the Supermarket.
Could probably turn that into ice cream as well.

Coconut ice cream is off the scale good.

Lactose intolerance just means you fart like a champion doesn’t it?

@Crucial I do exactly the same. Use the probiotics as a starter and even had success with an easiyo to get the temperature right. Haven't tried the icecream maker on it yet either but it should work fine.

Why the f is the stuff so expensive ready made?

Slightly of topic, but how amazing is Judith Durham?

De Niro foot stomping a grocer shows more vitality than some of you.

I don't have any allergies, but I have been told that I am intolerant. None of the therapy (hypno or otherwise) helps.

So I had my first ever child minding experience ever at the weekend. I have managed to reach my advanced age and never had to do this before but I had to look after a 17 month old boy from Saturday night to yesterday afternoon.

Now I feel old. Really old.

The kid had never been away from his parents before so he would cry unless I kept him entertained. Not having a clue my entertainment involved me doing prat falls leaping about and other very physical "comedy" Every fucking muscle in my body aches today.

How do they manage to have more shit come out than food goes in?

I'm sure most have seen this video but it cracks me up every time. An uncle trying to change a nappy.

This is meant to be a thread for the aged or aging,
You shouldn't be near children unless they are your grandkids when you are getting old.

A thing I really hate about ageing is the deterioration of my eyesight. I’m now wearing varifocals which are shit. And spec frames are really, really shit. There is an assumption that if your eyesight is bad you’re happy to wear some ugly plastic on your face. We’re not, we just don’t have a choice. Most of the world’s frames are made by a single company. There’s no incentive to innovate, so we all look like boring morons.

@antipodean I looked into it and I’m not a viable candidate apparently. I’m stuck with the furniture.

@JC I was increasingly using my glasses even though they're not that strong. Became more dependent over the last 6 months.

The wife found an eye exercise that helped me convince myself to reduce that usage. Did it make any physical difference? No idea.

@JC Don't get me started on that. I really need to get prescription sunglasses, but they are so damned ugly (and hideously expensive.) My other big grump: I got the coating on my glasses that is supposed to be anti glare or reflective, and it does jack shit. I avoid night driving if possible, especially in the rain, because it is so bad.

when I had to get my eyes tested for my licence renewal this year, I passed by the smallest margin to not need my glasses (had them in my pocket just in case)

    Yay me.

I went to the Dr for a skin check on Thursday and the guy was like 10 (another sign of getting old...) luckily he must have had training in dealing with older folk, when I said something about getting something checked regularly cos of my age, he said you arent that old and looking at your records, you take good care of yourself...sadly, that Dr is leaving the practice 😞

@taniwharugby Good on you for getting a skin check. A relative of mine had a little mole on back that started bleeding - yep was skin cancer. Had to have chemo, radiotherapy and all lymph nodes removed. You can't fuck around with that stuff and doesn't matter if it sees the sun or not.
