@Bones did the Weka get it?

I had never seen them in the wild until a few years ago, just in a carpark at Tapeka Point, 2 of them just cruising about.

My cat had killed a couple of weasels when we were renting for a while, which was great as at night you could hear Kiwi calling in the bush.

Fully grown Kiwis are formidable, but it's getting them past egg stage and chicks that is the problem.

They have a thriving kiwi hatchery on limestone island, which is an open reserve. Once they are adults, they release them on the mainland. An ault kiwi can (not will but can) fight off any predator, apart from dogs. Dogs kill most adult kiwi - not chicks, eggs, but adults.

yeah I spent a day over there clearing paths and the like, but yeah, most people dont know it is a reserve that anyone can go to, you just need to be able to get over the water.

HAs some great history over there.

I went to a relasing ceremony of 2 kiwi form Limestone out Whg heads too, where they have an increasing population of Kiwi with great work from locals as well as DOC and other parties.

I bowled one of those little shits and kept it in case my fly fishing mates wanted its fur . In the end they didn’t so I chucked it down a post hole . There was a hold up with the concrete and by the time we could pour the hole had caved in .
Being head first down a post hole cleaning out dirt with a four day dead stoat in February is not an experience I ever want to repeat .

@NTA That's a terrible infographic. Whose earnings go backwards during the year?

I find those things extremely difficult to watch at the best of times, but it was interesting to see some of the big paydays.

@NTA I think the moral of the story is if you can't have a brilliant footballer as a kid, teach him to box...

Leaning political, but no suitable thread there, and it’s also high-comedy.

    SATIRE IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Andrew Doyle reveals hoaxes on three major newspapers

    [...]

Who is Liam Evans? Well, he’s clearly an authoritarian, censorious monster. But he’s also clearly not real. Doyle asks why The Independent would run such clearly fabricated nonsense and points to the fact that a number of prominent comedians complained to the publication. Doyle asks, “What is happening to our media? Why is a respected national newspaper publishing drivel by a writer that no one has ever heard of just because it’s pushing a woke agenda? What does that tell us? And the other question they should have been asking is why is the left publishing these kinds of censorial articles that used to grace the pages of the right-wing tabloids? And if it takes a hoaxer to provoke a little self-reflection, then surely that’s a good thing.”

“Again, I do not want to speculate as to the authorship of that article,” Doyle says. “But I will point out one thing which I do find just a little bit curious… You might be interested to note that if you take every fourth letter of every sentence, it actually spells out the phrase, ‘Titania McGrath wrote this, you gullible hacks.’” [...]

    Libby Emmons and Barrett Wilson

WATCH: Andrew Doyle reveals hoaxes on three major newspapers

If it weren’t for geniuses like Doyle and the handful of other comedians brave enough to stand up to the woke mob, the culture wars might be a lost cause.

He punk’d The New York Times, The Guardian and The Independent.
