Well, on balance I"m OK with where we got them. 248/4 is in the game, and a couple of quick wickets makes a differnece. WE did well not to get smashed at the back end of the day.

First session tomorrow is critical. Good bowling and fielding from us makes a massive difference; if they get away, 500 is on the cards and we're out of the game.

Also, why the hell does a part timer like CdG look a better bowler than Ferguson/Southee? Wags is just a dead set legend, kind of like Brad Thorne for me - not a typical fast bowler at all, but a very smart and controlled one. Respect to the fella, it's awesome to have him in the team. Any bowler to gets an uncontrolled shot from Smith in his form should get that photograph on his wall 🙂

Going to be tasty tonight, can't wait

@nzzp Pretty evenly balanced I'd say. Aussies need to make some hay while the sun shines, then put your blokes into bat just before the second break.

Nigel Llong will take care of the rest 😉

@nzzp Yeah - I always have in mind that 220/4 is pretty much par in the first innings unless the pitch or conditions are incredibly difficult. So the Aussies fractionally ahead, but not much in it.

Lachie needs to strap it up and run in once we get to their tail - that's when extra pace can be really handy - getting rid of bowlers who otherwise stick around for handy 30s or 50s.

Wags getting Warner and Smith is a big positive. He'll play the mind games with those two so great that he's got the upper hand early in the series.

That was a bad toss to lose though. 40 degree heat is going to sap anyone so the batting team always had an early advantage with that. We did OK in the end but I have Aus firmly ahead of the game at this stage.

Big question is how much of a road this pitch really is. Kane and Ross can handle the pace no problems so long as it's not moving off the pitch too much. Jeet won't last but Latham, Kane and Ross need to dig in to take this game deep and then see what happens with the pink ball.

@canefan No- I only heard the same thing as TeWaio - he's gone for an MRI scan.

The Aussie commentators were suggesting hopefully that maybe it might just be a cramp - but, that seems unlikely to me.

I'd imagine we won't see him bowling - my strap it up comment was tongue in cheek.

Interestingly, Jeet is fourth favourite ($7) to be the top run-scorer in NZ's first innings - behind Kane, Tom Latham and Rossco.

But, ahead of Nicholls ($8), Watling ($10) and CdG ($13).

Mrs Raval must have gone big!

    Was amazeballs 🙂

Sounds like his second spell was a lot better than his first. Locky and Timmy didn't fill me with joy for the first few overs.

Bloody ockers have a special one in "loose bus change". Incredible innings and the partnership with Smith was enthralling test cricket.

Our tenacity, composure and discipline filled me with pride. No other team in the world could have stuck to it like we did in those batting conditions. Wags and Colin and latterly Timmy were top drawer and slinky performed a tough task admirably.

Honours close to even but Aus have runs on the board.

Comment from an Aussie today "we hammered you". "No, I thought we restricted you superbly". Yeah but you could've been hammered".
Jingoistic fucknuckles who know sod all are not solely the domain of All Black fans.

Game on, advantage Australia, but some great kiwi attributes on display

Hardly mentioned but the pink ball makes fielding bloody difficult, especially behind the wicket.

I watched Paine struggle to judge depth in Adelaide and BJ had a prick of a time all day.
Latham simply didn't see it till way too late

Over 40 degrees in the middle quick wickets are needed!

Jeez, Wagner is valuable in these sort of situations - 40"C temperature, down a frontline bowler - and he just keeps on running in hard!

We need to clean up the tail quickly - it is starting to get away on us!

Before I go any further: How hard do I need to suck his dick to make you happy? 🤔

More impressive was the short ball setup and realisation that Labuschagne was shuffling across too far.

The delivery itself was a stock ball at the top of leg stump with a hint of swing.

    EDIT: you changed your post
