Well done Aus. Clinical execution of a plan and finally the kiwi resolve hit a judder bar with a below standard turn at bat.

Starc for man of the match even if wicketless in the second dig.

Mind you Timmy steaming in last night was a timely reminder that the old boys see this series as their Mecca. We'll be 1 down but not written off by those who've watched NZ over the last couple of years.

A shame that a look at the scorecard has you thinking of a team with Fleming, Cairns or Vettori as the key personnel.

We've been better than that, but Oz have been better again; another plaudit to Langer and his men.

The pitch will ensure that any dream of a Paddybatch miracle will be just a dream, and as pointed out, we're going to have to find a way to tire those quicks. Funny but 10-15 km/hr might be the ultimate difference between these teams when it's all said and done.

One nil and a big rest heading into Melbourne

This Zimbabwean bloke is overstepping by a fucking mile. Not like the umpires don't have time to watch the whole delivery at that pace.

    Do your fucking job

Nothing a 350 run win tonight won't cure...

@Donsteppa yep, I don't expect us to come close to saving this game, but it would be nice to make Australia actually force 10 wickets.

Who would be the next option to open if Raval is dropped?

For a career that started so promisingly, Raval’s recent few scores are almost Chris Martin like.

I wonder if Blundell can open... am resisting saying Watling should move up the order, but it may be worth some thought if Raval’s form continues...

Tom Blundell is the only other batsman in the squad - but, they might push Nicholls up to open.

I'm not sure they should drop Jeet - not so much because I think he'll come right - but, because we might fuck up someone who will otherwise prove useful.

One of my theories is that we should pretty much ignore results against Australia when it comes to selecting the Black Caps, because over the years they've got rid of some decent NZ players who've been replaced by lesser players for easier series.

BJ would be the other option to open (assuming that they wouldn't just decide to start with Kane). In which case, Blundell could take the gloves - at least some of the time.

Seems like a long time since BJ's been an opening batsman though.
