I watched a bunch of these over the weekend and have nothing to add other than Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman look smoking in those films.

Attack of the clones is saved by the scenes at the end. The prequels introduced some really cool characters, much more than the originals, that can't be denied. Some of the set pieces were extraordinary. Hammy dialogue was a real issue though as Virg said.....when watching with the boys the scenes of Annie bitching and whining like a pussy are always skipped.

'The dark side clouds everything' is such a convenient cop out for the Jedi. M4L do you agree that for someone so powerful, wise and on to it as Dooku was he was a serious dumb fluffybunny for being Palpatines pawn? Doesn't he know Sith history? Also the montage of all the Jedi being executed and barely lasting a minute was really badly done I reckon.

Still all that being said its still part of far and away the best film series fucken ever.

So it's awesome.

Meh, it's the Godfather trilogy for me, the last three Star Wars bring the series down more than Godfather Pt 3 does. The final three might redress this though.

Tim: I have way too much actual stuff to watch than trying to include fan made stuff.

The Plinkett reviews are much more entertaining than the films.

So, watching the Star Wars prequels again this week, and for the first time, they are giving me the shits. They are not terrible; the effects, both visual and sound, are amazing (although the green screen stuff is too noticable at times); and i don't mind the over-all story line they create (as bad as some of the dialogue is, the story itself isn't that bad). This is not meant to be another discussion about their relative merits (or someone will post that breakdown by those basement dwelling shut-ins that is as long as the movie), but a couple of points that kinda pissed me off with this viewing for the first time:

Palpatine's whole plan often seems to revolve around unpredictable people doing the exact thing he needs;

In the senate in the first movie, when the Trade Federation delegates are crapping on about "where is your proof?!" why didn't the Naboo say "well, i've got these two jedi, you know, those undoubtable paragons of truth, that you sent as negotiators, they saw the whole thing, let me just give them a yell"

Where the fuck did all the sweet army gear come from when they clones turn up at the end of Ep2? I understand they grew the clones, but where the fuck did they get star cruisers, and drop ships, and fucking walker tanks at short notice? You're not telling me they were built on that ocean planet with the clones? And if Palpatine had it all sorted in teh background, wouldn't that have looked suss? "i know a guy, he's got some stuff we can have"

Why are the fucking jedi so fucking dumb??? Dooku straight up tells them about Palpatine, and they are all "nah, he's lying bro". They repeatedly show shots of Yoda looking suss as fuck about Anakin, I'm pretty sure he knows about the sand people, Anakin doesn't even try to hide the fact he is fucking Padme, and is emotionally unstable, and the Jedi do fucking nothing, in fact, if the Clone Wars is anything to go by, they straight up empower him, and give him a fucking apprentice! This is a dude, they go out of their way to say is dangerous right from the start, continues to show big, neon signs of not being jedi material, and yet they fucking actively enable him to turn bad. Jesus christ.

I'm actually starting to worry the new movie is going to suck, and it might actually break me.

Also, at the behest of the wife, i watched the first Hunger Games movie last night. Knowing nothing about it, i thought i would give it a crack. I didn't hate it, and i wasn't bored. That is enough to exceed my expectations. I may even watch the next one tonight.

I have to say, halfway through i had the awful thought she was going to get through the movie without actually killing anyone (wasp girl doesn't count) so i kind cheered when she shot that dude.

Yeah was surprised by Hunger Games. We only watched to see if it suitable for Ms boo jr. Ended up enjoying it.

One and two are pretty good. Three rambles setting up the finale which disappointed me horribly.

watched the 2nd one last night. not as good, but still alright i guess.

Also watched Revenge of the Sith last night. It's definitely the best of the prequels, but still far from perfect. My kids don't like it much, my youngest burst in to tears when Anakin turns bad, and then the eldest does when Anakin fights Obi Wan.

my kids are fucking Star Wars nuts. The youngest, that's all he plays with, Star Wars toys. They've seen all the movies multiple times, and will actually request them for movie nights (legends). We often watch a bunch of the Clone Wars, or Rebels cartoons. And they have been on a countdown to the new movie for 3 weeks. At the moment, it is more important than Christmas. Legends.

I was worried about taking a 4 year old, but he would lose his shit if he didn't go, and probably wouldn't talk to me for a month,

I have kid movie envy. If I have to watch Dusty Fucking Crophopper fight fires or race around the world one more time, I'm going to take every fucking orange and white plane around our house and smash them with a sledgehammer.

And don't even get me started on Lightning Fucking McQueen.

TR Jnr has been watching the Terminator movies, wants to watch Matrix and Mad Max, but IIRC there are some stuff in the Mad Max ones that are well beyond his age level appropriateness.

Yeah I watched that one with him, is also a scene when Arnie goes to Sarah's flat, and her flatmate is in bed having sex, don't see anything but know what they are up to...

IMDB have a pretty good parental thing on each movie telling you what happens, pretty sure I checked it for Mad Max, which is why I haven't let him watch that, with or without me.

I'm hoping to get the kids moved onto Minions or Inside Out over Xmas. Should be perfect watching for them whilst I snooze on the couch after a huge lunch.

Although little Miss MR is now approaching 2, and I suspect I'll be letting it go once or 55,000 times over the next 8 years.

Oh and thanks to Netflix they discovered Barbie life in a Dreamhouse or something. Its actually not the worse, very dry humour (obviously aimed at older girls). Often filled with references to anything from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Rocky etc.
