Never expected Star Wars to have little cameos, great stuff. The red headed Moff Tarkin equivalent is Brendon Gleesons son for all you trainspotters out there.

Just got back from the cinema. Overall very impressed but also agree with most of the pointed out plot holes. I'm hoping now that its out and getting good reviews that the next one can go dark like ESB. Definitely a fun watch and I can't for the life of me work out in this world of social media how I managed to not have anything spoiled for me!

Rey certainly seems Luke-like...could it be that Solo and Leia broke up because of her promiscuity? It would also explain Luke buggering off in shame..more so too when he found out she also had a love-child with Ross from Friends.

So no chance that you saw Bran from GoT as an officer on the Star Destroyer or one of the Sand Snakes as a X-wing pilot then?

It's funny the stuff that any new Star Wars movie gets criticised for, but shit gets let slide for the original 3.

I liked the direction with the villain. Rather than go down the track of a new, ultra-powerful figure arising from nowhere, we've got a bloke who really wants to be Vader, but hasn't had the training, and just isn't as powerful. Both sides of the force are effectively rebuilding, heading towards another final conflict i assume.

I really hope Rey isn't related to anyone. Every time they do that, it contracts the universe, and i had enough of that in I-III.

How good was the 3D?

I didn't see it in 3D, but apparently it wasn't filmed for 3D. Agree with you thoughts about a developing villain but I think Rey has to be related to Luke to be as 'good' as she is.

maybe she is Obiwans grand-daughter, she has to be related to someone, maybe not so close to the current storyline?

I saw it in 3D, and I'd say probably the best 3D movie I've been to.

    Like what? My criticisms are:

• An unoriginal plot that is a shameless ripoff of E4.
• An emo villain who isn't very good.
• Killing off one of the heroes of the original trilogy. Lazy.

Remember that Kylo says to Rey 'that lightsaber is mine' as if he feels he has more rights to it than she does. It was Anakins and Lukes. He thinks he should have it because it belonged to his grandfather.

Maybe he only realised after that Rey had more 'rights'?

That's great, you can have your criticisms, it's a movie, not everyone has to like it. I personally don't have a problem with any of those things, and that's my opinion.

Changing the subject ( but still keeping the Star Wars theme ) I'm really tempted to give my boys the BB 8 Droid. It would be a combined present for them from me along with a few other ( cheaper ) bits and pieces. I need to figure out if it works without the Bluetooth from a phone cos neither myself or the ex are keen to part with ours for periods of time cos the boys fuck things up on them. They have a tablet so it should work with that? If someone IT savvy wants to post a link that would be appreciated. Obviously issues with fighting and the thing being fragile and breaking are things I need to consider. Failing that the Lego Millenium Falcon could be a goer although $299 is a bit of coin!

Interesting fact: George Lucas orgiinally wanted R2 to look like BB but 70s technology wouldn't allow it.

Not sure how the BB8 works with Bluetooth, but on the subject of toys, my young one was the ripe age for all the Lego during the Phantom Menace/ re-release of IV,V,VI days.

There was an awesome big Falcon released those days which I couldn't afford for him (it was around $400) which nowdays is worth a bomb. He has a motorized AT-AT that I saw sold (mint) for $2k recently.

I must have a look in the attic ;)

Why is killing a hero lazy? It's a war, eventually someone is going to die. You not liking a storyline where a previous hero is killed doesn't automatically mean it's lazy. If George RR Martin was the scriptwriter there wouldn't be a original trilogy character left.

The only issue I have with the death was they seemed to skip over it after the fact - I thought they could have pulled on the emotions a bit more (where's Spielberg when you need him?).
