Consider a Lenovo thinkpad, the E490 looks a good deal

Have been using a Lenovo Thinkpad for about 6 months now and really like it. I travel a fair bit with it and whilst it’s on the heavier side, it’s features and durability are great.

@voodoo have you received the invoice yet?

My fax machine is broken and it's the weekend, will get onto it tomorrow.

@Paekakboyz agree, 512 isn't huge but as you say, external or cloud are options, particularly since it's going to be in a desk setup most of the time. There's enough budget left over on the ex-lease for options.
Turns out there's not much out there under $2000 with 16GB RAM and discrete graphics other than gaming or ex-lease laptops.

working with some grads a few years ago. Of the three of them, two had never sent or received a fax. One had sent one once when required by someone else. Time changes - they're talking about finally removing them from legal and pharmacies as the technology is just so outdated (but reliable)

I have one client that still sends all his declarations by Fax, I have tried to point out the PDF forms he is filling are able to be completed online too....

@canefan yeah same. That was a genuine question. I had a mac and an iphone about a decade ago, but swore off apple forever when I spent weeks trying to move photos onto an external hard drive unsuccessfully, then both machines karked it (is that how you spell that???) within a day of each other.
I never got the operating system of the mac, but to be fair never really persevered with it either.
Genuinely interested to understand why people prefer them these days.
I'm actually an IT consultant. Obviously excellent at my job. You're welcome.
