New Band of Brothers type mini-series from Spielberg and Hanks
Apple TV apparently has the rights. Looks like it has been in the works (to what level I don't know) for about 6 years or so.

What We Know So Far About Apple TV's Masters of the Air: The Latest on Upcoming WWII Miniseries About The Mighty Eighth | Footsteps Research | Personalized WWII Research & Storytelling

Info below updated on November 8th, 2019 Update includes three more confirmed characters! I have recently been working on some research for some Eighth Air Force veterans and their families, and the topic of the new Tom Hanks miniseries about the Mighty Eighth has come up a lot.  I am a huge fan of...

I'm excited for this (even though I was disappointed by The Pacific) and it's a bit of a coup for Apple to steal it away from HBO.

Have you seen the Pacific since it came out? I too was disappointed at the time but I think maybe that's because I was comparing it to BOB when it was a different story in that it didn't just follow the one company. I've just finished a podcast where they went through the book of one of the main soldiers on The Pacific, made me think maybe I should give the book a read and then give it another watch.

I did a fairly recent rewatch, the last couple of years at least, it's just really not that good. For the first few episodes I thought maybe I had miss-assessed it but by the time it got going it confirmed my earlier thoughts.

I rewatched it after reading Ambrose the younger's book The Pacific and Eugene Sledge's book.

Damn, that is a shame. Hopefully they can right the wrongs with the new series. The subject matter is too important to do a bad job especially with younger folks forgetting what these guys went through. It was Sledge's book that this podcast was going through, will definitely have to give it a read at least.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from giving it a rewatch, it's not wholly bad, but just not great.

It's a hard sell getting the Mrs to watch an outstanding war series...I can't see an average one flying at all.

Haha fair enough, plus there's so much tv out there now it's hard to find time for rewatching old shows if no A++ level (or HD as they use these days).

finished S2 of Barry, better than S1, as mentioned above, ep5 was awesome, but finished strongly, shit got real in ep 7 & 8.

Hank & Gene are both awesome characters...

Started The Outsider, very good 2 eps, hoping it doesnt go off the rails like Castlerock after it started well too

Finally caught up on The Expanse. Thought Holden's central story was a little formulaic. 2 tribes clash etc. Bobby's side story was entertaining and she got to fuck a bit of shit up. The election story was an interesting side plot too. Still my favourite program though.

The Witcher - GOT without the wit, fun or cool characters. Still watchable though

Mandalorian - heaps of fun. Loved it. Brought cool back to Star Wars. This is the way.

Now about to finally give Breaking Bad a go. Sorry to anyone offended I haven't watched anymore than 2 eps to this point.

I just finished this myself. I read it is on track to be Netflix's highest streamed show.

Can I recommend you watch Better Call Saul first then, as that is a prequel. Watching in chronological order might make more sense regarding the background of the supporting characters.

I wouldn't recommend that. The Saul character is great with the mystery behind him in BB. Besides the fact BCS isn't finished!

@Bones I know there are still 2 seasons to go but it's not really a surprise now, unless you have avoided all info about BCS. Both shows are great in their own different ways.

Well ok. Can't say I've ever seen info about BCS anywhere other than BCS! I like the mystery of Saul, Mike etc in BB.

Mrs Browns boys is nothing to laugh about.

Excellent news though, next time a pom has a dig about NZ being uncultured I'll just mention this and they'll hang their head and apologise.

What's even funnier is those Ant and Dec twats receiving their usual presenting award even though they presented nothing together all year

    Good Omens

I enjoyed this, and Sheen and Tennant were great. Plenty of Queen songs in the soundtrack as well.

    Oh, Adria Arjona is hawt.

It’s probably a bribe to stop them from making anything else “ look , we will give you an award every year as long as you never ever remind us of your existence again”.

If so thanks to all involved

'For all Mankind' on Apple TV+

Watched the first ep which was great. An alternative reality where the Ruskies beat the US to the first man on the moon which then starts a tit for tat escalation of space race 'firsts'

Some reviews can't help but see it through the current political environment lenses and claim it is a vehicle for woke-ness (first woman, first black etc etc) but anything with a premise of showing great space shots and continuing, what was a cool period in history instead of it fizzling out, sounds alright to me. No need to read much into it.

Production values are high and the scripting/acting of good quality. Not groundbreaking but looks like it could be a good watch.

Going to time it right for a one week free trial and binge this.

That's Ron D Moore right? Worth a watch just to see what he's doing these days. Might do the trial thing too.

I really enjoyed FAM. Yeah it’s easy to see it through a woke lens but there are some good side issue raised too, like the morality of hiring von Braun, Nixon’s narcissism, and whether Jimmy Carter would ever have been president in Ted Kennedy hadn’t attended that party. Keep watching till after the end credits of the last episode for a real geek moment.
