@Steven-Harris Yeah, although I prefer NPC, I'm looking forward to the SR season. I'm especially interested in the young players. Hoping for some of them to put their hand up for higher honours, this year or next.

And sevens will continue. Who'll make the Olympic squad?

@Steven-Harris They said earlier it was over 40 degrees on the ground (early afternoon). It's incredible the teams could still play that well in those conditions. I have a hard time sitting on the couch in those temperatures haha.

The Aussie (?) commentator expressed his surprise it could get that hot in NZ.

Fluhler? (sp) Looks to have loved every minute, smiling, dancing, scoring tries.

Took me a while to figure out that was Stacey (nee Waaka) Fluhler. Both teams made to work but looking great for this season

Confusing when they get married and change names. I'm still getting used to Hirini.

Stacey is a talented lass. NZ rep at touch, provincial netball, hockey and athletics.

@booboo Fluhler (Waaka) is a breath of fresh air with the way she plays. And not just when scoring tries, she was even grinning when unjustifiably yellow carded. Always love watching Blyde since I saw her scorching the turf as a 17 year old at the Mount Sevens. Great to see her go on and become one of the best in the world.

Got to admit to having a crush on Michaela. Not in a dirty old man way either you sickoes, but how I enjoyed watching Cullen, Lomu, McCaw, etc. A very special player.

    Yeah it would.

Love Portia too. She did around 12.5 seconds for the 100m as a school girl IIRC. A commentator mentioned it at some point.

Michaela hit 20mph at the Dubai sevens - which is 11.18 for 100m.

Unfair comparison as they aren't over the same distance, age, etc, but shows how quick those two are.

is Portia going to play again, or did I miss her retiring?

Think it was missed in this thread, but was it Tyla Nathan-Wong took Portias all time points scoring record in the final.

@taniwharugby Portia returned from her serious injury - I think in Glendale or Dubai - but then pulled her hamstring. She's close to making a return.

And yes, Nathan-Wong broke her record, yesterday.

For Portia (as a non kicker), to even have that record is bloody amazing.

@Snowy It will be interesting where she'll play when she returns. It makes no sense to move Fluhler to the bench, who has been awesome. Maybe Fitzpatrick's spot? The BF7s coaches have a great pool of players to chose from.

@Stargazer They are all so good that rotation rather than "benching" might be a better word, and yes probably Fitzpatrick if somebody is going to be left out.

Black Ferns 7s squad for Sydney.

Jazmin Hotham and Shiray Kaka have replaced Risaleaana Pouri-Lane and Mahina Paul.

    .

Is Jazmin Hotham from Putaruru by any chance?

Played footy with a Hotham when I was there and he had some talented kids and rellies IIRC.

@booboo All I know is that she's a great talent from Hamilton Girls High. I'm sure @Bovidae can answer your question.

    Nigel?

"Hotham was brought up in a strong rugby family and has made every rep team imaginable. She was named to captain the Youth Olympic Games team last year, but got injured just weeks out."
