Yep, totally agree that it looks sensational. The prequels seemed too bright and computer-like. This looked much more "real".

Real is the word. Not just the planet locations, the battles too. It was one of the things I disliked about Lucas' interventions in the first trilogy too. I have a directors cut type DVD box set and all of the extra bits he inserted, mostly into a new hope, were shithouse and added little or nothing to the films

I liked how JJ added some new classic nods to old movies. The awesome Apocalypse Now shot of the Tie Fighters in the sunset. ....

It's obviously not "Tai Fighter", but it's not technically "Tie Fighter" either.... it's "TIE Fighter" - TIE is an acronym for Twin Ion Engine, which incidentally gives them their distinctive howling engine noise.

And the cartoon show spinoffs, along with their merchandise. Disney are squeezing every single bit of value out of their investment. At least the fans finally get to watch series and films that do the franchise justice at long last

Well they are 1/1 for most fans at the moment....with the cartoons they are hitting the next wave of fans as well as the original fans, bringing the new fans into the vast world of Star Wars and when they grow up...

There's talk it might break $1B at the US box office alone, an obscene figure given Avatar is at $700+ m (dating back to 2009)

I wonder if it has the legs to do that? Avatar hung around for a long time (in part due to the 3D 'gimmick') to rack up its numbers. Although, I do know a bunch of people who have seen it twice and the odd person going back for a third time.

I have never seen Avatar, I keep waiting for it to return to a cinema in a brief run so I can go see it.

A film like Star Wars is bound to have a lot of repeat viewings, which is how Avatar and Titanic made such huge figures. None of which had particularly record openings. People just kept going back to see them again and again

Yeah whatever. Thanks for that input about the actual film. Do you get some kind of rise from going around threads and picking fights?

Just went to see it this evening with the kids. Great film but, but... Ach!

Why yet another bloody death star - sorry killer planet. X wing fighters save the galaxy with seconds to spare - again. Didn't like Voldemort as the supreme being or whatever. Was sort of glad Han got it as the creepy old people love interest was looking a little suss. The darker SW films are head and shoulders above the more feel good ones - Empire, Sith and now this one (to a degree). Liked the film a lot but was a little bit underwhelmed due, I think to the amount of hype it got. However the new characters were bloody good.

BTW, some of you lot bring nerdism to a new level. Sheesh!
