Black Caps showed the full value of ‘you must make sure you bat your 50 overs’ today

Run outs almost cost us today.

Both the wickets we lost when batting and the ones we missed in the field. I think we missed 4 or 5 in the field before finally getting one. Not good enough.

Jamieson looks like he might be the goods.

This thread is great reading now. The comms were talking about Eden Park being a weird place to play because sometimes 350+ gets chased down easily and other days 250 is too much.

Plenty of work ons but over all a pretty good performance. Middle order needs a long hard look at itself, and the bowlers were good until they let Saini get away from them.

Jadeja is a great cricketer. Just so good at every aspect of the game, and seems to thrive the more pressure there is.

Satisfying to win a series missing our best bat, and three best bowlers. Plus two more missing today and Timmy sick.

Criticism of Chapman a bit harsh I think. He's a part timer who was the last resort was never likely to bowl. If he becomes a regular black cap it will be as a top order bat.

Holy fuck I can't believe we won that game with a second strong bowling lineup. Incredible.

I agree. He might go on to have a good career, in his chances thus far he seems to have had stage fright.

It would have been a mistake to have him bowl tonight I think. Eden Park against India is not the time to have a part time inexperienced spinner bowling under pressure.

Having said that, I think Latham should have bowled Neesham a bit earlier than he did, because the way he managed the bowlers, he might have had to throw the ball to Chapman..

Well after the Aus debacle we were right to be scathing of the way we started this series. As it stands now we should have won the last three T20s, and are now 2-0 up in the ODIs with a severely depleted squad.

Our top ODI team is better than India, and our second string team is proving too much for them as well. Good stuff, that's a really satisfying win.

Jamieson looks like he has all the raw materials. His first class numbers aren't amazing but still pretty early days for him, very interested to see how he develops. That was a fantastic debut.

Plleeenntty to work on, the missed run outs in particular are so frustrating. It's not good enough at this level, many of those are not that difficult and we're making a meal of it nearly every time. Also, why the hell are they trying to throw down the stumps with bounce throws? Just idiotic, hit the stumps on the full you clowns.

Anyway nice to get a couple of Ws on the board, it's been a tough old summer of cricket.

I can cope with missed run outs, it's the ball being in a different postal code that annoys me. The stumps are tough to hit, and most of those run out attempts were at one and a half stumps. But they were wildly off target. Fitting that when we finally got a runout it was from an error in the field.

@No-Quarter To be fair, both us and India are significantly below full strength in this ODI series.

Rohit and Dhawan are massive pieces for them, plus that all-rounder whose name escapes me at present. They'll be delighted with Iyer and Rahul, who look like they can solve their middle-order batting quandaries.

Early days, but Jamieson looks like he could be a significant find for us.

I think Doull made the point that with drop in pitches you may need to hit the stumps on the full, but I'm sure the theory with the bounce throw is that you're unlikely to miss the stumps by throwing over the top - get the line right and you'll hit. But, it has been notable against both Oz and India that they've been hitting regularly and we've been barely hitting at all.

Maybe it's a run of bad luck - after all, they were saying that the visiting captains are on a winning streak of 18 straight tosses at Eden Park. Can't remember if I'm calculating right, but that seems like about a 1/250,000 chance!

    Ahh this bloody cricket team!

After a month of total dross they've just strung together a world class chase and a world class defence to a world class team.

They've played bloody well to win this series and deserve the beers. Lathams captaincy has been noteworthy, 7-2 fields, plenty of attacking fields, energetic (yet inaccurate) in the field, got the most out of newbie and Colin with the ball, has kept very tidily, and knocked off the indians.

We'll done Tom, how to get you captaining more so Kane can just bat?

Good series win, very well done blackcaps but you're still not allowed in the house after the Christmas debacle where you shat on the carpet, then in the car, then back on the carpet again! It'll take a while to clean those stains.

    Jolly good show otherwise 👍

Nice little debut from Jamieson. Interesting that none of the NZ commentators were expecting it. Whilst his late innings hitting was probably the highlight, his bowling was disciplined and looked to be part of a good worked plan.
