@OleOleOle Yeah, IIRC Randle was the coach then. I went to the final when they lost to Marist. Koloamatangi was part of their propping rotation as well.

The Blues then went on to say that Coventry had made a mistake. So not round 7.. probably the original date of round 11

    Or Coventry spoiled the surprise

It'll be interesting to see where he plays those 2 club games. I assume he'll be added to an Auckland club temporarily

@Canes4life yea is odd, original date looked like v Jags, but makes sense for it to be at EP from a marketing POV rather than Whangarei, but yes, even more so v the canes.

that Canes game is the away game though (week before Lions). So doesn't really help Blues much (marketing wise)

    from the link:

coming back for the end of the season to come up to speed for the ABs in July.
then coming back in May 2021.

so, if we get to the playoffs we'll have him around to swoop in and take the glory. It feels ..... .... .. . . weird?

However, Barrett will likely miss the majority of the 2020 Super Rugby season, with NZME reporting the 28-year-old will be taking both a non-playing and playing sabbatical as part of his contract extension to stay in New Zealand.

Barrett will take a break from rugby and make himself available for the last few weeks of the Super Rugby season to get up to speed ahead of the July and Rugby Championship tests, before then joining a Japanese club at the end of the year, where he will be based until May 2021.

Is it time for Beauden Barrett to go back to work?

Marc Hinton: I suspect so. The fact that he's back around the Blues suggests his feet are getting itchy. He's been slated for an April debut, but maybe that comes forward if he can speed up his return protocols. The Blues certainly need him. And a little bird tells me he has already canned one of his bucket-list events to prioritise his rugby. Sooner the better, so long as he's happy.

@Tim if that's true, then that's both amazing and awesome. Players want to play!

It's a very long way back from here. So frustrating as he's potentially a generational talent. We have to have our systems and processes in place to head this sort of thing off early, and get the best out of our players. It takes a while to get there, but he's showing why it's so important.

    /shakes head.

This might actually be beneficial for him in that I assume they're working at getting his fitness up and in contrast with the last two years Rangi isn't going to work him to death. If the Blues are around at the business end this year they could have him at peak fitness.

    @nzzp

Or the Blues have decided to give him a long off season after playing him into the ground last year. In the Chiefs match he didn't even strip so he would not have taken the field if someone rolled an ankle 5mins before kickoff.
Remember the TSFers that watched the warmup matches said his fitness was good and he played well.
