Full Hurricanes squad to face the Blues:

    15 Chase Tiatia
    14 Wes Goosen
    13 Billy Proctor
    12 Ngani Laumpehe
    11 Lam
    10 Fletcher Smith
    9 Jonathan Taumateine
    8 Gareth Evans
    7 Du’Plessis Kirifi
    5 James Blackwell
    4 Scott Scrafton
    3 Tyrel Lomax
    2 Ricky Riccitelli
    1 Fraser Armstrong

Not the most powerful side the Canes have ever put out.
Tiatia I don't rate. Just not really up to this level. But Im sure Aso will come in next week. And maybe its too early for Proctor. And where's Barrett. I wouldn't mind seeing him at 2nd 5 with Ngani Laumape at centre. Lam at FB with Goosen and Aso on the wings.

Blackwell is almost a joke selection. Poor ball skill and far too short (1.90) I thought he was a Plumtree selection. I just hope these current selectors don't continue this silliness

and Prinsep. 👎 What do they see in him. The Canes need more stars not adequate plodders

None of the ABs are playing preseason games. They have returned for training but are not allowed to play, yet. That applies to ABs at all SR franchises.

Also, selections in preseason games are usually not an indication of who is going to play - and where - during the season.

Lam at fullback is a ridiculous idea and if he plays like he did last week, he shouldn't even make the squad. He did absolutely nothing to deserve a spot in the 23.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to watch this game.

Have you ever seen Lam play FB? (I have and he was surprising good there)

@Winger as in not totally shit? He's not a FB - can fade in and out and I'd worry about his D. While Tiatia is raw he's shown enough to get a start imo. Next cab would be Jordie? Maybe Marshall?

Strong All Blacks core?? They named two reserve All Blacks and a couple of fringe players.

Not to mention JGB and a guy who did not even have a contract a couple of weeks ago, the mind immediately springs back to Sveu Reece. The latter (Mafileo) may turn out to be a better prop than the five Super Rugby selection panels initially suspected, only time will tell there I guess.

adidas has today unveiled the alternate jerseys for all five New Zealand Investec Super Rugby sides for the highly anticipated 2020 season.
From material to design, the jerseys have been crafted to reflect and honour the natural environments of each team.

All 5 jerseys are part of the new adidas PRIMEBLUE range – made with Parley Ocean Plastic, which is recycled plastic waste intercepted from beaches and coastal communities before it reaches the oceans. From material to design, the jerseys have been crafted to reflect and honour the natural environments of each team. @Paekakboyz Yeah, I don't like any of the away jerseys. I know the colours fit the water/ocean/natural environment theme, but they look boring. I don't mind the pattern.

Just read in an article on stuff that mentioned
kane leaupepe has a long term injury the article didn’t specify what it was and google isn’t saying anything...looks like Blackwell’s going to be a starter for the long term.

In the Blues v Chiefs thread, Fletcher Smith is called a journey man. To stay with the literal meaning of the word (although - on the Fern - it's more often than not used as a word for players that posters don't rate, and therefore subjective), below is an article that sheds some light on why/how he ended up with the Canes.

A lot of Fletcher Smith's journeying is due to his parents moving, attending school and uni. And, apparently, Jason Holland.

Being one to never miss an opportunity to be pedantic ...

... the actual meaning of the word "journeyman" is a person who is still learning their trade. It was the stage between Apprentice and Master.

It has nothing to do with travel.

So describing someone who is of average ability as a journeyman (not a journey man) is pretty close to the proper useof the word.

                    Primary school "learnings".

He has been really, really bad for Wasps. Doesn't even seem to be selected on their bench now.

Sops'll need to sort his attitude and performance out to be Super Rugby standard again.

Yeah he's been totally supplanted by Umuga-Jensen (who's been called into Eng squad, too). But really the possible upside is better than what we have ATM!

I’ve heard from a close source that the Canes have their eye on Sopoaga for next season. If true, I’m not too sure what to make of it.

He has been really, really bad for Wasps. Doesn't even seem to be selected on their bench now.

Sops'll need to sort his attitude and performance out to be Super Rugby standard again.

Maybe he's one of those guys who performs better in his home environment

He really struggled to adjust to the style of that competition, much like Cruden struggled in France. He lost all confidence accordingly.
I reckon Sops could come back and find form.

If the rumour is true - we'll probably have to wait a long time to find out - I hope it doesn't block the pathway of a certain young, talented first five-eighth, who should have got a contract for this season, but didn't get one.
