@Stargazer @Snollygoster said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:

The Bay of Plenty team named to play Taranaki in Round One of the 2020 Chiefs Country Centurion Cup this Saturday:
    15. Tiaan Falcon

No comment from Stargazer about this selection yet. Quick someone call an ambulance for him as I suspect he has taken a turn and collapsed into a state of unconsciousness at the very indignation of it all.
Seriously what is going on here? Surely this is an early April Fools joke? Clearly he must have been forced to play in this match by his paymasters as I find it incomprehensible he would voluntarily do so. At the very worst they could play him under an assumed named thus avoiding all the ignomy that playing for this particular team entails.

@Higgins Allardice and Falcon gathering intel behind the enemy lines. Very smart, although - no doubt - involuntary. I just hope they use disinfectant shower gel after wearing that hideous jersey.

@Stargazer I assume some of the other Chiefs' squad members need a game, and are based in Hamilton. Same for Cobb.

An interesting team. Has Roe returned home from Taranaki? I have never heard of Milnes and Westlake. I would have expected Parker to be the no.8.

@Bovidae Yes, Roe is back in town from the Naki.....likely to be signed by Waikato.... Milne played for Hautapu last season and goes well. Westlake is English and played for Te Awamutu last season, he went really well in a team that often struggled.

@OleOleOle I am familiar with Coby Miln, having seen him play at HBHS, and I had noticed he was back in the Waikato after being in BOP. It was the hooker Anton Milnes that I hadn't heard of. I would have expected Sam Cooper to be the hooker, unless he is injured.

Did you go to the game? The team listed in the Chiefs' match programme differs from the WRU media release.

Falcoln should have played for Taranaki - an opportunity to squeeze Millennium Falcon into the commentary missed!

@Bovidae Yes, I was talking about Anton Milne, he has been around for a wile now and was in the Waikato U19 squad around 5 years ago. I am not sure what the deal with Cooper is, maybe he is injured....maybe they wanted to have a look at other players...

Manawatu, Wellington and Hawke's Bay Academy teams will play a game of three halves, today (Sat 22 Feb 2020), at Massey Uni (Palmerston North). They're playing for spots in the Hurricanes U20 team.

I think this is the draw:

                      11.30am: Manawatu v Wellington
                      12.20pm: Hawke's Bay v Wellington
                      1.10pm: Manawatu v Hawke's Bay

                      Wellington Academy squad:
Niko Manaena, Pasi Uluilakepa, Blake Rogers, Tyrone Thompson, James Moodie, Matt Dobbyn, Taine Plumtree, Hugo Plummer, Angelo Smith, Akira Ieremia, Josh Southall, Sam Smith, Iona Apineru, Caleb Delany, Keelan Whitman, Isaac Bracewell, Aidan Morgan, Connor Collins, Reon Paul, Ropati So’oalo, Kienan Higgins, Steven Va’a Ethan Webster- Nonu, Roderick Solo, Ruben Love.

I haven't seen squad lists of the Hawke's Bay and Manawatu teams, but know that Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong, Liam Udy-Johns, Jordan Thompson-Dunn and Anzelo Tuitavuki will be playing for Hawke's Bay.

Wellington Rugby has announced Tamati Ellison and Dion Waller will join the Lions coaching line-up for the 2020 season.

They’ll work alongside newly appointed head coach, Leo Crowley, who was promoted from an assistant coaching role in December last year.

@Hooroo Fucking Waikato lining up for yet another challenge....

They occasionally win one, but it's so run-of-the-mill hardly anyone turns up to watch.

Luckily, it no longer matters - us having demonstrated our absolute supremacy over NZ provincial rugby. I read somewhere, the other day, that only the Auckland team of 2007 and the Ta$man team of 2019 had ever completed unbeaten NPC seasons. That's slightly surprising - I would have thought one of those late-80s Auckland teams would have. But, if not - we've got a superior points differential to Auckland 2007 - so, Greatest Provincial Team of All Time?!!! Seems like it! 🙂

Actually, since it's Canterbury with the Unfairly Shield, it's slightly surprising that we haven't got a challenge - the Shield having passed through the hands of numerous easy-beats, before landing somewhere slightly tough!

Anyway, go Buller! They're one of about three Heartland teams who have waited even longer than Ta$man

It would be nice if Canterbury lose their first challenge to Taranaki, and then Taranaki lose their first challenge to Otago. I can see Otago beating Taranaki, but not Taranaki beating Canterbury. But one can dream ...

It's happened eight times that a team has gone through first division/Mitre 10 Cup with a perfect record. Ta$man in 2019 is the first team to do it since Auckland in 2007.
