@Kirwan they make up a name like those people earlier in this thread!

Funnily I met up with a client last year, and when I met him I thought he seemed familiar, but name didnt ring a bell, he recognised my name, and then said his name at school and how his name was now a combination of him and his wife's name.

Assume it is no different if they split up they both change names back?

My mate changed his last name at marriage to his mothers maiden name as he was the end of that family name.

His wife to be was thrilled too as if he kept his original last name she would have been Mrs Crabb

First time I've ever encountered this. I thought the hyphenated names were the perfect solution for the kids, not adults.

Was wondering who "ex kiwi league international " Robbie Hunter-Paul was...

*Hunter-Paul is well placed to comment on Super League impact.

The Aucklander - best known in New Zealand as Robbie Paul before hyphenating his name when he married Lisa Hunter in 2010 โ€“ spent his entire 19-year professional career in England.*

From an article on stuff talking up SBW

What if two people with hyphenated names get married and want to... hyphenate? Do they end up with 4 surnames? And then their kids end up with 8? 16? 32?

    It's a stupid idea.

Both parents hyphenating is, but children adopting hyphenated names works perfectly well for hundreds of millions of people.

How selfish, not thinking of the next generation beyond thier own.
    Hyphenated names are retarded.

What happens when two hypenated people marry, is it exponential?

If they adopt the Spanish/ Latin American method, then taking Hooroo's example:
The child of Andrew Smith-Jones marriage with Andrea Samson-Whitely becomes Bruce Smith-Samson

Should've had a son... It's tied to the language - masculine takes precedence.

The Herald paywall increased digital revenue by 1% , who would have thought people would have been reluctant to pay for garbage like Lizzy Marvellys weekly article about how shit men are?

@jegga I find it very, very telling that they think ditching journo jobs is the way to make the Herald relevant again.

That means more cut and pastes from twitter, reddit and facebook . You have to wonder at the mindset that thinks more people will be prepared to pay for that.

    https://www.ema.co.nz/AboutUs/stories/Pages/Recycling-giants-LanzaTech-named-โ€˜technology-pioneerโ€™.aspx

They are showcasing this company on Sunday right now. Harnessing bacteria that can convert carbon emissions into ethanol based biofuel. Or plastic. And all the end products can truly be recycled by feeding them back to the bacteria. The company has projects all over the world including China and India. Amazing

Interesting stuff. As someone employed in the financing of this sort of thing, the key section is here:

"People look at us and say we're an overnight success. But we are an overnight success that took 13 years. And I still wouldn't describe us as successful."

"We are very fortunate โ€” very fortunate โ€” to have very patient investors. "

It's so hard to make this stuff work, especially at scale.

@voodoo he's had some influential backers and now they are getting to a commercial stage. If they keep this up and if they have no significant competitors, a company started in New Zealand could be more important than Tesla. Imagine, a process that can use emissions and industrial waste and create fuel. That can use plastic waste and the byproduct is new plastic. Maybe consume car emissions and make ethanol biofuel. It's the stuff of movies
