Just a point here, why aren't they saying genitals? They keep saying he grabbed his penis, looked like he was trying to tweak the balls to me - which would have been a bit painful.

Should get a month ban at least for that, no place for attacking the genitals, eyes, etc in rugby.

@booboo If Marler had been sent of then, Wales would have won easily.

AWJ did well not to retaliate. And that's the frustration for me - it's niggly bullshit. Not sure how long he cops -but I think a week is too short, but 12 is way too long.

The other question is what do you get for that if the ref sees it live the field. YC? RC? Penalty?

@Hooroo It's a sexual assault. Rugby won't be regarded as a credible sport for long if it allows grown men to grope other men without consent.

@Hooroo Marler will get a very lengthy ban. Bit like when Neil Back got a 6 month ban for pushing the referee.

I agree with Sparky's point there.

There s a reason people's genitalia are off limits.

AWJ was compromised and had and has no recourse.

I think that incident should have been picked up TMO and RCed.

I don't disagree with that. Definite Red, no question.

But forfeit the match, get 6 months and some fucking counselling???

@sparky cos they are in the same ballpark??

It was a bit of a non-event, but by the same token, WTAF was he thinking, you cannot do that, even if it was supposedly a bit of a joke...

He deserved to be laid out, am impressed by AWJ's restraint

For me, AWJ is right up there with Eales, BBBT, etc in the pantheon of locks. Never gives less that 110% and Wales are bloody lucky to have him.

    Class act.

If Marler had tried to squeeze BBBT like that, he would have broken his own hand.

Well if it was in Japan they would have shut the entire 6N down for re-education!

Variable perspectives in Rugby about what's OK and not OK

Frenchy hits someone in the head - red card, probably cop a couple of weeks ban. No indignation, no one upset, not even talking about it.

Marler - anything from no harm no foul, to 6 months + counselling. The crowd goes wild

    'tis a funny old sport

If Marler had tried that with an old school forward like Meads or Buck, he'd have emerged from the following ruck with his hand in several pieces

A willy away was normally done with members (yes) of the same team not the opposition. Marler clearly didn't quite grasp it entirely.

    @nzzp

Think there's a big difference between a dangerous tackle or throwing a punch in the heat of the moment and thinking it a good idea to go over and start fondling another players genitals in full view.

According to Terry McLean, in his book Willie Away, it involved a player, on a lineout call, going down on the middle of the line-out, grabbing any loose ball, thrusting into the midfield backs and tossing off any of them who got in the way.
