By the way, the list of players with contracts expiring in 2020 is still quite long!

Most important players (current & fringe ABs) of who the re-signing or departure still has to be announced (if my list is complete, I may have missed announcements):

    Scott Barrett
    Mitch Drummond
    Gareth Evans
    Vaea Fifita
    Jack Goodhue
    Luke Jacobson
    Nepo Laulala
    Atu Moli
    Angus Ta'avao
    Patrick Tuipulotu

    Also plenty of non-ABs.

@Bovidae Yep, it's what a lot of Hawke's Bay fans have been saying for years. Glad that finally a player is saying it out loud. The tide may be turning now though ... 🙂

Prime Sports reports Weber still has an out-clause in the contract.

@Number-10 Hmmm, interesting. He had an out-clause for 2020 (that he obviously didn't use). I wonder whether he really has one for 2021, or whether they're confusing it with the one he had for this season.

Tyrel Lomax wasn't the only player who was cited and suspended after last week's round:

The FPRC accepted a guilty plea from Santiago Socino of the Jaguares for contravening Law 9.12: Stamping or Trampling. The incident occurred in the 80th minute of the match between the Sharks and Jaguares at Jonsson Kings Park in Durban on 7 March 2020.

The FPRC of Adam Casselden SC (Chairman), Eroni Clarke and Stefan Terblanche deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of 6 weeks due to the World Rugby instructions that dictate any incident of foul play involving contact with the head must start at a mid-range level. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the Player's clean judicial record and the fact the Player has pleaded guilty at the first available opportunity, the FPRC reduced the suspension to 3 weeks.

Socino has been suspended from all forms of the game for 3 weeks, up to and including Saturday 4 April 2020.

You'd have to think there is a high likelihood of Super Rugby going on hiatus in the very near future.

@KiwiMurph Yeah, as soon as a host country/province/city imposes restrictions on events, SANZAAR will have to follow and make changes. But it seems unlikely that there will be more changes for this weekend's games.

An ideal soultion to cut down on the inter-country transfer of the virus would be to have all teams assemble in one conutry, self quarantine them for two weeks and then play all the games in Wellington............................................

Three weeks for stomping on an opponent's head, Marler gets 10 weeks for giving someone's todger a tickle.

@antipodean Definitely seems to be a disparity in the penalty dished out compare to the potential physical injury each incident could cause.

UPDATE: Australian Super Rugby matches will go ahead as planned this weekend but fans will be locked out from next week in response to the growing coronavirus crisis.

The Reds will host the Bulls at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, with thousands of fans expected, with the match the second leg of a double-header following the Sunwolves-Crusaders game - a clash already relocated from Japan due to the spread of coronavirus in that country.

The Brumbies and Waratahs will also play on Sunday in Canberra, following the Brumbies-Reds Super W match, while the Waratahs women will take on RugbyWA in a Super W match at Sydney Uni on Saturday.

But all Super Rugby and Super W matches beyond that will be played at closed venues, a decision agreed on during a teleconference between Rugby Australia, the Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) and the Super Rugby clubs on Friday.

The Japanese team play their three upcoming matches in Australia before a scheduled home game against the Reds on April 5.

That Reds clash is widely expected to be relocated with travel to Japan and the ability to hold major events in the country restricted due to coronavirus.
