Pretty disappointed about that. Thought Laulala was a good chance to challenge for the Ab starting TH spot. Strikes me that Faumuina will always be the impact player off the bench, but was hoping Laulala might challenge Franks. All 3 ligaments is pretty unlucky.

As I mentioned in a post above I've followed Nepo's career with great interest since he arrived in Canterbury.

I've probably watched around 80% of his club games and seen his early progress in the gym first hand through my time at the Franks brothers gym.

I think he's a huge talent, and the word down here is that he's the strongest tighthead in the country, so was gutted to lose him.

I think he'll be the starting number 3 for the ABs within 2 years.

Come on guys cut the anti Cantab bullshit, it gets pretty boring pretty quickly. I know some Cantab posters don't help the cause, but it does get to a point around here where Cantabs can't make a comment without someone going 'poor widdle Canterbury'.

I was just reading an article about these injuries to Laulala and Bird. Both were freakish and resulted from players landing on them in different "non-contact" training sessions. It also appears that neither can be replaced at this stage although Rennie thinks that there aren't many options for a ready-made replacement TH prop when you already have the best 15 TH props spread across the 5 NZ teams.

Sure he also said he was a fan of both after but I still don't really think it's on at all.

It's a bit of fun, you Chiefs fans need to stop taking yourselves so seriously.

Hence my super coach Rennie comment (which is also harmless fun, in case you were going to reprimand me about that too)

I think so, but they were keen for Mitchell Graham to play a bit more tighthead, so they could switch him there permanently. They actually have three front rowers (at least) who can play either side of the scrum, so they have the versatility to bring in a loosehead like Hames if they want to.

Bit of a change in topic, but a mate of mine is a close family relation of Wayne Smith.

Spent Christmas up in Hamilton with the family and had a few discussions with Smithy about the makeup of the Chiefs.

There was a bit of a disagreement between Smith and Rennie over where they should play Damien MacKenzie.

Smithy reckons he is a natural 10, but Rennie is going to play him at 15 this year. Apparently Smithy was not that happy they signed Beaver as backup 10.

As Cruden is co-captain he will start almost every game so it makes sense to play McKenzie at FB. The Chiefs coaches have always debated player selection in certain positions.
