Sometimes forget how good Mils was as a running fullback back in those days.

really? how do you forget this?

I just do (early on-set dementia?), maybe because I compare him with the gold standard Rangi (I'm not @Chris-B) Cullen, and remember him as the solid all round fullback he was more than the attacking dynamo.

Mils is our 2nd best FB is have seen. Great runner, really good at bringing his wingers in to the game. He's the man. One of my favourite ABs of the past 20 years (probably 2nd behind Kaino)

I'd probably go Cullen, Kipper, Mils of the ones I've seen.

Agree with you on Kaino for favourite AB of the last 20 years.

Kipper can't compete with Cullen in terms of sheer brilliance (despite being quite brilliant himself) or with Mils in terms of longevity

Yeah, and that's why he's second, and I don't generally have longevity as one of my key metrics when picking my favourite/best players.

Such a differnet game back then. Would love to have the space in the calendar to play a Probables Possibles game in a regional stadium.

The All Black trials were always much loved and usually had a few surprise names in the teams. Free flowing footie with plenty of space. The 1992 trials consisted of two games at McLean Park in Napier..

@mikedogz Cheers for posting that, I was at that game ... the girls we were with (from the local Catholic school) wouldn't shut up about how hot Marc Ellis was.

I hope you enjoyed a bit of second hand success on the back of it?

1️⃣9️⃣9️⃣7️⃣ - Northland vs Central Vikings at Whangarei. Northland playing some great code against on paper a handy Vikings side. A decent crowd for a Division 2 game. Central Vikings played in two...

@taniwharugby not too many people gas Christian Cullen on the outside..Joe Mafileo has story to tell his grandchildren, from what I have heard chatting to some individuals that played in that game..Cullen had not come across the very little known Mafileo, but having seen him run around in North Harbour club in the mid nineties..I knew he could shift..,Cullen in most cases would show the player the outside knowing he had the pace to rope him in..problem was Mafileo possessed stunning pace over the first 30 metres.

Which is why it's so annoying that for all but 2.5 years of the 90s we were fucking shit.

1996 NPC SEMI- COUNTIES vs CANTERBURY at Pukekohe. Another cracker of a game played in front of a huge crowd, winger Joeli Vidiri dotting down 4 times and giving Counties the high scoring win of 46-33..

1995 fixture, a very handy Counties side beat Canterbury 41-39 scoring some great tries. RIP to two Counties legends playing in this game, Jonah Lomu & Peter Fats..
