From Gill's comments they must do the bronco test in pairs, and Ruru was fortunate he was paired with BB.
In the Chiefs, DMac and Weber would be a good pairing to nudge BB's record.
@Bovidae usually it is done with multiple people, is def not as good on your own or with someone a bit slower than you (eg BB with Tu'ungafasi)
When doing fitness with TR Jnr last year I was a good 30 -40 sec slower (as I was quite a bit quicker than him) than i was when I did it with his team who had a couple of kids that do well under 5 mins.

You still smoking him in sprints ? great work, he's a teenager now isn't he ? I hammered the boys in a sprint over the weekend but only cos the other half was watching.
Strange seeing Read reasonably low in that Crusaders list.

@Bovidae its an individual fitness test. no one is helping you run faster. its just a group shuttle run

My point was more related to what we often see at the Olympics when some athletes do PBs as they are "pulled along" by faster competitors in an effort to keep up. Basically for the reason @taniwharugby says.

@muddyriver yeah I understand that, but competition drives people.
@MN5 he was just 13 when we last did one, we did some stuff over lockdown and he is still behind the old man...I hassle him about being slower, cos I gotta!

As Dads we have to make the most of our physical traits cos theirs will only get better as ours deteriorate......

4:12 to cover 1200m doesn't seem quick until you factor in having to slow down, turn and accelerate on a pitch giving you no assistance.
I used to tell people the secret to shuttle runs was the drive - the first couple of steps after you've turned which mean you didn't have to be chasing at the end. You could effectively coast until the pace was too fast. In a Bronco test that benefit is somewhat negated unless you're looking to contest Beaudy.

Would be interesting to see what Nick Willis could do one in.

quick, but again the type of movement would count against the way he would usually train
it would be interesting to see what type of athlete is most set up for this particular test.

@mariner4life Yeah - he'd be carrying probably 20kgs less than Beauden, but might not have the same explosiveness as e.g. a 400 metre runner. More endurance though.
Offhand, Nick would be my pick to set the NZ record - but, you're right about set-up - could be someone surprising.

not too heavy. Good aerobic fitness, but also agility, and the ability to perform repeated explosive movements.

Prolly Kane Williamson again eh. Definitely not Rossco.
Not if he's paired with Roscco...

any cricketer that can do this test well should be immediately banned from the game

Handy news
Tanielu Tele’a is back training on the grass and closing in on a return from a shoulder injury.Meanwhile i'm sure Beaudie is breathing a sigh of relief that he has the respect of James Parsons.....

@KiwiMurph if only they could have talked to blues back Brian Badondo instead.
