@Victor-Meldrew I'm sorry but that's not gonna fly.

As someone once said to Wilbur Wright

This guy arguably did it first. But in true kiwi style didn't make a deal out of it so he is a footnote instead of the main man

Well I didn't know this about him:
"Late in life he became bitter and paranoid and was admitted to a mental hospital in 1951, where he remained until his death."

Nor that his nickname was "bamboo Dick", which is a bit unfortunate these days.

That's the thing about nicknames, they can stick forever. Reminds of 9 year old CF Jnr wanting to change his fortnite handle to 'one pump' because of his lethal ability with a shotgun. I advised him not to because (none of the chicks want a guy named one pump) just because

@Bones Doesn't look very attractive, full of splinters....just didn't sound very good, but then neither does Dick.

That's all very fine. Remember to show that pic to the girls when the first thing they think of is skewers

I know right. Then I'd feel guilty paying for the magazine subscription.

Such a beautiful plane. Even now

Sounds great too with that Merlin engine.

The Fokker Tri-PLane is probably my favourite plane of all time. Just something about it.

The guy most famous for flying it was pretty good too.

It had an unfortunate habit of the wings falling off though.

Even trickier is the upside down take off that he attempted.
From the headline I was curious as to the "misunderstanding", which wasn't that he didn't realise that the wheels are supposed to be on the bottom.
