Finally got round to watching The Big Short. Understand the financial workings, but it was the portrayal of the various types of people involved which I thought brilliantly done.

Steve Carrell was outstanding. Olivier (I think) once said a good comedy actor was invariably a brilliant straight one. Proved in this film.

One of the few films I've watched start-finish for quite some time. 9/10

i looove this movie. It's one of those ones that, if i flick past it, i have to watch until the end. The book is even better.

Ryan Gosling is brilliant i thought, just the sheer arrogance and slimeyness. So good.

It was Foxcatcher that convinced me Steve Carell had some acting chops.

Do you not rate comedic acting as acting chops or are just meaning dramatic roles?

Although there were some dramedies that showed off his acting talents (setting aside comedy) before that (in my opinion) - Dan in Real Life, The Way Way Back, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

@Nepia Dramatic roles. I honestly haven't watched any of those you listed, or many of his more well-known comedies.

Fair enough, I actually think it's easier for a comedic actor to move to dramatic roles than the other way round.

@Nepia Robin Williams was almost always excellent in a serious role.

Many of the great dramatic actors are/were also brilliant at comedy. Alec Guinness, De Niro & Ralph Richardson spring to mind

@Tim I've seen five of the movies on the women's list. I'm astonished men have watched Brokeback Mountain.

@Tim Didn't we have this list before and @Hooroo was talking up the Harry Potter movies? 🙂

I've seen 6 of these movies but only 2 in the top 10.
