I was watching an interview with Woj last night. The problem is that some of the sub 0.500 teams don't seem that interested in resuming the season with little to play for, while others want to be involved despite a remote chance of being competitive in the playoffs. And then some of the small market teams have been vocal in needing to play for their survival. The NBA will need to keep all parties happy.

22 teams is too many anyway. The East already had their playoff teams sorted out, the Wizards are 6 games back in 9th
In the West maybe Portland could get in being only 3 back, but fuck 'em. Win more during the regular season.
Realistically only 3 teams can win the comp anyway.

@Bovidae The problem is there is quite a big gap between some of the playoff teams & fringe playoff teams. Dallas (7th) has 11 more wins than Portland (9th) in the West and for example.
@mariner4life Yeah that's the other problem - Portland are basically on the same wins as 2/3 other teams so if you let Portland in you might as well let the others in. Plus one of the 'others' has Zion so that will help tv viewership.

@KiwiMurph The unknown is whether the 22 teams would be the best 11 from each conference or the 22 teams with the best overall record. It should be the top 22 teams based on their overall record.

If it's the latter, the West is extremely well represented. I knew the Suns were a play off team this season.

The NBA board of governors voted Thursday to approve a 22-team format to restart the 2019-20 season in Orlando, Florida, the league announced. Under the plan, 13 Western Conference teams and nine Eastern Conference teams will play eight regular-season "seeding" games, a possible play-in tournament for the eighth seed and playoffs at the Walt Disney World Resort. The top 16 teams in the Eastern and Western conferences will be joined by teams currently within six games of eighth place in the two conferences -- New Orleans, Portland, San Antonio, Sacramento, Phoenix and Washington. The play-in tournament will include the No. 8 and No. 9 teams in a conference -- if the ninth seed finishes the regular season within four games of the eighth. he'll get finals MVP if they win too. 3 rings at 3 teams with 3 MVPs? that's unreal.
And lets not forget, one of those teams is in fucking Canada!

Nah, it doesn't in and of itself, but he is certainly close, especially if 100%. 1a and 1b maybe. That said, the guy is 28 with just 20k minutes on the clock which is baby fresh legs when compared with LeBrons 35 years and 58k, so that's a massive advantage already!
But mostly I say no because the Clippers are clearly the deepest team in the league. If you say Kawhi and LeBron cancel each other out, then AD is marginally ahead of PG (some would argue AD's playoff record says otherwise), then compare the rest:
Harrell, Lou Williams, Beverley, are all first rate. Shamet, Morris still add value as do guys like Zubac (why did the Lakers give him up?) and Harkless.
Lakers have a chasm of a drop off from their top 2. Kuzma shows flashes, but KCP and Bradley are average now and Danny Green is pretty old. Nobody is creating offense in that group. They have no PG (Sorry Bald Eagle and 34yr old Rondo), and their backup bigs of McGee and Dwight are prone to break/implode at any point.
You'd never dismiss a team with LeBron in it, especially one with AD there too. But over 7 games, and with that Clippers D, it's hard to go past them.
