Chiefs 2020

Thomson was there from pre-season so has obviously stayed in the squad. Vaa'i looks to be the lock replacement for the injured McWhannell.
Parker is an interesting selection as he covers the same positions as Thomson.
-
@Bovidae Ah, yes, I forgot about McWhannell's knee surgery!
Who did Thomson replace before the SR season (but after the squad announcement in November 2019)?

I think he was only there as temporary cover for Jacobson when he was returning from concussion symptoms.
Maka is the only confirmed injury replacement but Geldenhuys and Vaa'i will fall into that category now.

DAMMIT!! That has got me all pumped about rugby again. I was hoping not to support sky and get sport back on but it looks as though I will be.

I was just watching some of the 2013 Chiefs-Highlanders season-opening game from Dunners on Sky. A reminder of the potential Ben Afeaki had for such a big man. A real shame his career was cut short.
-
@Bovidae they had on the final from I think 2009 here the other morning. I can't for the life of me say I remember James McGougan at all.
@Bones McGougan played for BOP and later moved to Otago.
They are showing a lot of archive matches and I have seen the odd game. Hosea Gear was the Landers captain in this particular game. Rhys Marshall debuted for the Chiefs at hooker as Elliot and Schwalger were both injured. Pulu was being talked up as an exciting find as the no.3 halfback.

@Bones He had a short and uneventful SR career.
Mr Google says the other Chiefs props in 2009 were Taumalolo, Ben May and Joe Savage.
It obviously wasn't the front row that got us to the final.

Moli and McNicol are also out with injury.

@Stargazer shit missed that one, probably because he's not that much of a loss, not a fan of Allardice.

I better talk to that trainer again! Unless he meant everyone was fit apart from those injured

I did notice that neither Moli or Allardice were there yesterday. Brown and Vaaβi were playing at lock, although Ardron was there too at the start. I'd say Thomson is a good chance of being in the 23 as he is a good lineout option. It makes Jacobson even more important in the lineout.
A phone call to BBBR might be needed.

He's already made it clear that he's turned his back. Maybe he's just looking for a spot at the Blues.
