That鈥檚 the tree鈥檚 vascular tissue, the xylem and phloem. Yes, trees have a vascular system - it essentially carries water and minerals from the roots up to the leaves and the photosynthesized food back down to the rest of the tree.
Interesting fact: trees have no muscles (or nervous system) so all of this movement is powered by turgor pressure, which is controlled by stomata in the leaves that open and close as needed.
