        King Carlos gets the boot

        https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/121981028/super-rugby-former-all-black-carlos-spencer-cut-from-hurricanes-coaching-staff

From the season so far it appears that the defensive coach must be doing work experience and working for free.

Given Carlos lives in the Waikato he would be welcome at Chiefs training this week. 🙂

Bring your 'ex player with fuck all experience but does a good line of banter to work' season

Attack had been just as shit as defence, sadly

Defence has been awful this year. But attack has been almost as bad in the first two games.

Maybe Holland will move back to the attack coach. With Marshall helping out. I don't rate Holland that highly but last year was better than this one.

I guess hiring likable ex players with 0 coaching experience isn't working out, go figure.

Canes entire coaching stuff need to just go.

How true is that though? I have no idea how he coaches or if any failings can be attributed to him (he's not the one selecting midget locks) , but maybe when he was a player he was doing a similar role?

He's always been a tactical voice for the canes, despite his clown image. But this is his first gig AFAIK, pretty much straight into the top end without proving anything. I Reckon he got the position based on his playing connections rather than on merit. Too high, too fast imo

I don't disagree with this, just thought you might have been selling his actual ability short in the original post about this.

@Nepia well our defence has been rubbish this season, so he's got to take some of the blame

@Machpants He had at least a year as defence coach for Wellington under his belt, but I agree, not much experience for a SR assistant coach.

So the Canes for the spoon next year? How have we become such a disappointment that we’ve attracted ex Blues players that obviously didn’t cut it in Auckland. What happened to the quality first five that was promised for next year?

Heads have to roll at the Canes now, they’ve made too many stupid decisions lately in both selection and recruitment. The fans deserve better.

@Stargazer there goes any chance of McClutchie getting a run.

I'll get in before Stargazer and ponder that Lincoln McLutchie must have been unavailable. There were also strong whispers that Jono Hickey had been signed for the Lions for 2019 and the HUrricanes for 2020 so either that has run out of fuel or the Canes management are still sitting on that wonder signing. And are they still short of financial resources that resulted in the demise of Carlos Spencer...............................

@Stargazer If he was you would think he would have been a better option than a guy that has been given a chance and not exactly made a good fist of it. I am referring to S Hickey and not JGB by the way, although it could apply equally to both players in reality. Come to think of it Callum Harkin must be feeling a bit put out not getting the call up ahead of anyone given the Hurricanes selectors fondness for locally based players.

The Hickey signing was mentioned weeks ago by a TSFer who has a good source.

@Stargazer thought I was trolling when I was repeating it 🙂
