Watched Avengers: Age of Ultron

Formulaic isn't it? They backed themselves into a corner by making every single character an invincible super warrior (even the spy and Robin hood). So the only way they can create "tension" is to have them fight each other for half the movie.

Pretty much the best way to sum it up!
-
Watched Top Gun with the kids. Fark yeah.

I saw this at the movies when I was 7. Goose dying still makes me sad. But, what a cool film. -

Valhalla Rising

Despite the 1.2 star rating on Netflix, I'm a fan of Mads Mikkelsen and historical fiction in general.

I can see why people rated it that way, but I had no real issues with it. Just a lot of nothing in between the gaps of action and Mads Mikkelsen ripping people apart with his bare hands.
-

Dallas Buyers Club. Sad, frustrating, horrible, McConaughey and Leto were both very good. The weight loss was seriously scary, their poor bodies. Jennifer Garner's role was a bit pointless.

All the President's Men. Hoffman and Redford investigate Watergate. This was a bit hard to follow at times, but the thing that annoyed me most was the end. This was the scandal that brought down a president, but they didn't show Nixon's downfall or his resignation, those two huge things were reduced to a minute montage of typewritten newswire feeds.
-

Concussion: Will Smith movie about concussion/brain issues in the NFL.

This movie (and Pixels) are examples of where the reputation/ratings/reviews of a movie can sometimes be completely out of step with how good the movie is. I saw Pixels in a packed theatre that spent most of the time laughing yet it was panned as being unfunny - likely just because of Adam Sandler.

I haven't seen a good review of Concussion but it's a thoroughly decent movie. Smith is good as an African doctor (once you get used to his accent) and the supporting cast do pretty well too, Albert Brooks is good, David Morse is good as a former player and Gugu Mbatha-Raw is both hot and good in this movie.

Well worth the $10 I paid to see it. (I have $10 movies all February :)).

Not sure the NFL will be too happy with it though.
-
Up. Nice story. Those PIXAR movies know how to tug on the heart strings.

Deadpool. Was excellent, never went long without laughing and was a bit upset when it finished. Go see it.

Legend. Bit meh to be honest, tells a small part of the story and does it in a pretty boring manner. Hardy was great but still...I'd say don't bother, you're not missing anything. -

I always wonder if he ( as well as whats his face from Outrageous fortune ) get paid double for playing twins.....

Great performance from him but the movie wasn't particularly good, weirdly paced and seemed to descend into awkward comedy when the brothers had their punch up. A better Kray film was made years before with the two brothers from Spandau Ballet in the lead roles.
-

Add me to the "Deadpool is fucking great" list.

Funny as fuck; extremely violent; and titties. Big ticks all round.
-

I thought you said big dicks all round for a sec.

I've heard I'd love it but I can't stand Ryan Reynolds so I'm in a real conundrum but I have some free movie tickets and there's nothing else I'm even remotely interested in now that Star Wars and Bond are distant memories.
-

Well there are significant sections of the film where you see him get tortured, injured, burned, stabbed and shot.

That help? -

Brooklyn - last movie on my best pictures nominee watchlist. This is a nothing film. In certain parts it's a laugh out loud comedy and in the rest it's just what's the point? I know that lots of females like it and I'm unsure why. What is weird is that Nick Hornby wrote the screenplay yet aside from those funny parts it's completely dry.

One of the main reasons I watched Edge Of Tomorrow - the opportunity to see Tom Cruise get smashed over and over.

Just so happens its a great film as well.

MN5: I happen to know that Ryan Reynolds poaches a mean egg. That help?
-

That's a fucken good quip that NTA, I might go to the movie based on that alone :good1:
-
The Hunger Games

I previously thought (perhaps very unfairly) that this was Twilight-style chick lit but I really quite enjoyed it. If have a complaint it's when the actual competition started. I don't get how you can suddenly have a 6-man alliance in a competition where the objective is to kill everyone. It's not Survivor or the Royal Rumble. That Katness hardly smashed the comp either. That little black girl saved her life then the other chick decided to have a little rant instead of just killing her.

But yeah, am now looking forward to watching the other films.
