I'm not one to gloat, but I will make an exception in this case (along with stockcar86 who will probably be doing likewise)!

In all honesty it was not the best of games to watch, beset as it were with untold penalties and handling errors. Hastings looked to have a fairly young team out there so look for much bigger things from them in the future.
One extremely pleasing thing was that the only sign of non rugby goal posts on the playing grounds were so far away that they may as well have been in Havelock North, even then that particular ground looked to be way under regulation size. Excellent work HBHS giving slight encouragement to non rugby players by providing them with some ground to use until they come to realise that rugby is they only game that really counts for men in NZ.

Haha, yeah the soccer field and hockey field's have always been hidden from view. And gloat away, we've been in a rare period in Hastings, with our lack of a boarding (poaching) house and three other boys schools to suck up potential students, of success so I've been gloating away, shoes on the other foot now.

HBHS seems to be in the lull year this year so the 15-10 loss doesn't seem so bad, just wish it was to another team. 😉

    Write-up of Saturday's game: https://cdn.hbapp.co.nz/news/nbhs-capture-rugbys-moascar-cup

    Big down-vote for this:

The 2015 Hawke's Bay Ross Shield player-of-the-tournament, Stok, intends to further his rugby career in Wellington next year where intends to complete a Diploma in Civil ande Mechanical Engineering course.

So frustrating to see our local talent go elsewhere. Again.

@Nepia You must have benefitted with the falling away of Te Aute College in terms of retaining players at HBHS that might otherwise have gone down there. Having said that Shane Hiha seems to be doing a good job getting Te Aute back on the upward turn, just needs to get that task completed and then he can start on the important rugby component of the job.

@Stargazer Shall we have a side bet that he will be "allocated" to OBU, MSP or Petone by the WRFU?

Yeah, but that coincided with Lindersfarne reinstating their chequebook scholarship programme.

The Gisborne Boys v Hastings Boys livestream didn't work properly and was restarted. the game also started late. No half time, yet. Rain is pouring down. Terrible conditions.

Napier Boys are leading 17 to 5 at half time.
The left corner of the field isn't covered by the camera and that's where the first Napier try was scored. No idea by whom; there's no commentary. The try was converted. Then Tauranga's hooker scored a try at the other end; bad defence from Napier. Next, Napier's fullback Afa Moleli scored a great individual try at the other end; he might have confused rugby with football. Again the try was converted. I assume Carlos Kemp is doing the kicking for Napier. He has also added a penalty goal.

Tauranga's rugby can best be described as bash and crash rugby. When they have the ball, they just run straight into Napier's defence. They don't seem to be able to do much else, except giving away penalties. Napier dominating.

Half time: Gisborne 12 - 0 Hastings Boys

Both teams with several handling errors due to the wet conditions. Hastings unlucky a few times, stealing several Gisborne line-outs, but losing one of their own just when it mattered close to Gisborne's try line. Two great tries to Gisborne, who lead deservedly.

Andrew Hayward again Hastings' best. Cooper Flanders playing well, but sometimes trying too much.

Napier just won their third game. Tauranga scored the first (converted) try of the second half. This was followed by a great try from big Napier prop Mitch Curran from the pick and go. Then, again it was Tauranga hot on attack, but Napier's defence held. They retain the Moascar Cup.

    FT: Napier 22 - 10 Tauranga

It's not going well for Hastings Boys, who are trailing 17 - 0 at the moment.

Full time: Gisborne Boys 17 - 5 Hastings Boys

Although Gisborne definitely deserved their win, I'd like a stern talk with the ref. Allthough Gisborne's defence was good, with good line-speed, they also lived offside and weren't penalised for it. Other ill-discipline from Gizzy boys was penalised, but it happened so often, that the ref should have handed out a few yellow cards. He didn't have control over the game. All in all, the score is flattering Gisborne, but having said that, Hastings Boys made too many mistakes and couldn't get over the Gizzy try line. They had enough opportunities.

Best players for Hastings: Andrew Hayward, Cooper Flanders, Hoera Stephenson (good kicking game).

I haven't seen a line-up from Hastings Boys, but I had the impression they were missing a few players, incl Mefi Tupou.

It's a crap cheque book if you look at the other schools we would play at our quad. St kents and shots. Scots went from easy beats with Vito to national champs.

It's more the fact we are just a high calibre factory than anything else.
