The Number Ones: Yes’ “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”

    Very interesting reading.

I think my favourite song of theirs ( again completely different to "Owner of a lonely heart" as the article alludes to ) is this one. I love the acoustic break in the middle ( at 3.16 ) and the big finale at the end.

Sure it's indulgent prog rock but fuck it's good stuff. Yet another band I discovered thanks to the old mans record collection.

@Tim Ienjoy following "The Number Ones" I wouldn't have thought Owner of A lonely Heart was Breihan's thing. It certainly isn't mine. Sounds like Starship to my ears.

In the day I was a big Yes fan along with the Likes of Crimson etc. but by the mid 80's I'd largely gone off popular music. I still have all the albums up to Relayer sitting at home. I tried to listen to yessongs a while back. Started off like - hey this is cool why haven't I listened to this for so long. Five minutes later I wanted to rear my ears off.

He’s a contrarian so I’m never surprised by what he does/doesn’t like and I often find some of his ‘reasoning’ for liking/not liking stuff to be pure BS.

It’s a great column though and to whoever on here recommended it - 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

I worked in the 90s in City about 50 yards from the intersection at 0.12.

Best part of belting this song out in the car is there's no particularly high notes ( which I struggle with these days ) and my boys think I'm cool when I sing it......once I buy them a treat then I go back to being a douchebag Dad.

I love how David Hungate looked like Newt Gingrich.

I caught a film on Sky Arts yesterday "Scream for me Sarajevo". It was based on Bruce Dickinson returning to Sarajevo 20 years after his 1994 concert in the city when the war was in full swing. The interviews with him and his minders, the peacekeepers, his band and especially the local music fans were pretty eye-opening and humbling. He came across as a top bloke, definitely a guy I'd enjoy a beer with.

Try and catch it if you can.
