Weird stuff as our flight home got cancelled, but we ended up booking a flight that left 30 minutes earlier... On the plus side, it's a dreamliner, so we forked out the extra $50 each to fly business class (no food because level 3, but we thought we'd see what it's like).

No available Air NZ flights out of Whangarei till the 27th, so hopefully we can drive into Auckland Airport to catch the flight home and don't get turned around. Booked flexi just in case... Plan B is to book Sun air to Hamilton and get a rental car from there to somewhere with flights to Christchurch, or just drive all the way home. If that doesn't work, I guess we're stuck here till we can get a flight home, so probably after Auckland gets out of level 3.

I'm flying from PN to Auckland on the 27th, connecting to Sydney flight. I'm absolutely shitting myself that my domestic flight will get cancelled meaning I miss the Sydney flight.

To the point I'm contemplating driving the 6hrs to Auckland.

So we noticed when looking last night! Incidentally, the flights are still there (https://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/flight-schedules to check), just not available to book tickets on. If it's one booking with one booking reference and they cancel the connecting flight, the whole thing will be cancelled, so you'll get a credit or refund for that. If you have separate bookings, that's a bit more awkward.

Might be worth planning for a drive (I'd suggest a rental car from somewhere that has a depot at each end e.g. Avis, Hertz or Budget so you can just drop it to them at Auckland airport - they might even have one way relocation specials) or bus, although you can't arrive too early while Auckland is at level 3 (12 hours apparently).

Flying up the night before may actually have been more of a hassle as you are allowed to transit through Auckland Airport but aren't allowed to leave the airport precinct under level 3.

@Godder would have to stay at the Sudima Airport Hotel. In the carpark of the international terminal. Assuming it is not a covid19 hotel

All of the Auckland Airport hotels are Covid hotels, although the Jetpark is the specific hotel for people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

That sucks. I guess there isn't much call for transit hotel accommodation at the moment

That and it minimises travel for potentially infected travellers so it's safer for the various staff involved with that.

I've decided to not bother given the uncertainty and Covid-19 impact on work.

Great Central Road is awesome as is Shark Bay. But yes sadly wont be possible for a while yet

That's the Novotel but yes they are all Covid so don't bother.

How many domestic flights are Air NZ cancelling? Know what you have been through @voodoo until you shagged Gina and got some help so you might just have to put yourself out there again?
