Movie review thread...

Upgrade. A Netflix near future sci-fi. Interesting plot line with several possible bad guy outcomes. No tits. Fight scenes a bit odd, but there’s a reason for that. I found the ending a bit unsatisfying but on reflection I’m not sure it would have been better with an alternative. 3 weedy looking bad guys out of 5 sympathetic AIs.

Cheers, we’ll know to avoid it then

Knives Out.
Sensational. Really outstanding film, well built, well acted, well directed, great performances. Really enjoyed it.
Five suicides out of five murders
Didn't get on with it.
Overwrought.

Saturday night has become "introduce the kids to an 80s movie" night
Last week, Top Gun. Possibly all time best theme song. First part of the movie may be the most homoerotic thing ever put to film. They are not even trying to hide it. The rest is a blatant propaganda recruitment job. And. It. Rules. Anyone who doesn't think this movie is rad as fuck should be ostracised from society
5 needs out of 5 speeds
This week, Police Academy. Wow, ratings really were different in the 80s huh? What i remember as a harmless bit of fun has a bunch of shit you really shouldn't watch with your kids. the lectern blowjob scene was skipped for one. Lots of really bad "fag" jokes that have aged like milk. The kids thought it was piss funny though, the usual "fish out of water" physical comedy that kids love is there in abundance. Overall though, it's pretty weak. Sgt Callahan was pretty fine.
2.5 things were very different in the early 80s out of 5 fuck this riot really came out of nowhere!

Backtrace (allegedly an action movie with Stallone etc)
So, so bad. Some shit about a bank heist that goes awry, people turn on each other, dude gets shot and loses his memory, money is missing. Stallone is cop trying to figure it all out. Spends most of his 15mins on screen staring at a board with photos and string links. Matthew Modine is the dude with amnesia, spends a lot of the time clutching his skull as memory fragments return with the help of a serum injected in his spine. Miracle pistols fire an insane amount of shots. Cliche gems like 'no one was supposed to get hurt!' and 'that wasn't in the plan!' and you have characters constantly explaining shit to each other or offering backstory (I guess they didn't grasp what the fuck was going on either.) Yet another example of mildly interesting premise, terrible execution.
1 bag of stashed millions out of 5 crim beeps his horn and yells so cop doesn't check boot of car in front. -

It really blew my mind to discover that Bobcat Goldthwaite and Booger from Revenge of the Nerds were in fact two different people.
I was definitely under 10 when I watched these and the running gag of everyone ending up at the Blue Oyster was obviously completely lost on me. As for the scene in which the Commandant gets pleasured during his speech....yeah I think the fast forward button might have to be employed.

@mariner4life the 80s was a different era when it came to movies, Porkys, Revenge of the Nerds, Screwballs, Animal House, Blazing Saddles etc
Many of those films wouldnt get past the door of a studio now, but boy they were funny AF back then.

I've re-watched Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2 over the last few nights. Not my favourite Tarantino movies but still a great watch, and the fights scenes are epic.
I prefer the second one personally, Michael Madsen is always cool as fuck

I have them on MySky and revert to them when bored. I like them both but I prefer II over I except for the Hatori Hanso scene when she goes in as a "ignorant" american

it is actually as old as I am!
