My eldest just advised his connecting flight from Auckland to Whangarei has been cancelled I did tell him to check last week) assume he can just rent a car from Auckland and drive up here?

fark, so now his flights have all been cancelled completely!

Woulda thought controlling passengers going from one plane to another in Auckland would be easier to manage when none are to enter/leave the airport?

There will be no problem finding a crummy motel in Hamilton. I think the place has that market covered well.
You could even increase the crumminess and head to Mercer or Pokeno for a headstart

Tuakau Hotel is another option just on the Waikato side of the border. Won some awards after its makeover so not too crummy. The town itself I can't sell too much though.
