Pleased that I wasn’t imagining things, and I have been here 20 years like you I think?

I have a 2013 Subaru Legacy for sale if anyone wants it - fucking mint car, I loved it for the last 4 months, and I'll take it back to Sydney in 6mths if I can't get a decent price. It currently lives in Hamilton

But it's grey (is it cooler to say silver ?) so that rules most of you out

I'm partial to silver. I'll see how much is left in the kitty after I've finished the kitchen renos in my Dunedin rental... (answer: probably bugger all).

My boy puked - everywhere - in ours last week, right as we arrived at the beach.

    What. a. fucking. mess.

One week on and I'm happy that there is only a small hint of puke smell when you turn it on.

My friends Vauxhall Nova (No Va meaning no go in Spanish, not sure why it did't sell there) was known as the sick car. She was always a lazy slut and when her kid spilt milk she left it. Rancid milk smells worse than puke and we were able to verify this as the smell (some weeks later) made her other kid puke, which she also left. We caught No1 kid eating the remnants of a pork pie that he'd found on the floor at the back of the car and this finally prompted her to clean the thing out.

You could not sit in the car with the windows shut even then.

The next generation Isuzu D-Max comes out Monday and I am very keen. Sick looking truck, all the bells and whistles, heaps of grunt

    Mazda CX-5. I love it.

Picking a brand new car up off the lot was just like this except I’m much pastier and work paid for it, I didn’t steal it.

How do you guys buy cars down in Oz?

Everybody up here seems to use PCP. In which case you don't buy the car, but you essentially finance the (expected) depreciation. It seems an expensive way to buy a car to me, but then again, it does allow people to drive brand new cars for 250-300 per month.

Now obviously, if you are going into flash car territory, then things change somewhat. But you'll get a brand new golf for the above. That's pretty damn good.

    No, we're not drug dealers.

Are they planning to stay in Australia supporting new car sales? Lately, a few companies have been leaving or talking about it.

@MajorRage seems to be a lot of that about at the moment. I was fucking around online getting quotes and there were a heap like this. New 50-odd thousand utes for 750 a month.

    I prefer the traditional method

I haven't seen anything about it, but it's something I'd be asking about. Those new Isuzus look pretty good.

Those poor bastards who have Honda and Holden franchises must be feeling pretty shit right now.

Given that Mazda Utes are basically Isuzus anyway, I wouldn't buy one of those either.

I actually decided now was a shit time for us to buy a new car (even though my job is quite safe)

my little kia rio is 7 years old, and starting to battle. I am loath to put any money in to it as it's worth absolutely nothing

also i need a camping vehicle

And I pictured you as a Holden Barina kind of guy 😉

If you can pick an old Ute (4x4 if possible) they are great for the camping grounds, carrying gear and the odd bush bash with mates riding in the tray!

@Virgil or have had water restrictions for months. I too have a black car. It is thing of beauty when cleaned but at the moment it looks like shit inside and out.

Don’t talk abut the inside, I’ve given up keeping mine clean. When you have young kids it’s like pigs at a trough. Food, clothes, food, empty packets from food, hair ties and food. I always stare forward when I get into my car, I never look in the back seat.

My wife's car is just a big, mobile raisin box. But i get tremendous satisfaction from cleaning it.

What is wrong with you, I can’t stand to be inside my wife’s car ( or dump hole as I call it)

How about a truck? Hilux Invincible X very nice, bit too big for me but depends on what you like. We've had a Ford Ranger and Nissan Navara over the years, love my Ford Kuga but might go a bit smaller for the eco sport next year.
I personally have a thing for grey vehicles.
