@Nepia I enjoyed it!
I think the result was a foregone conclusion regardless of the NZR decison, margin may have been a bit slimmer.

Yeah, Northland were on fire that year so I don't think the Vikings could have turned it around. But I knew a few of those players and they definitely had no wind in their sails after that decision.

We are starting our buildup to the Mitre 10 Cup on New Zealand Sport Radio.
The aim is to interview a coach from all the provinces before the start of the tournament
First up is Southland with head coach Dale MacLeod going live at 6pm this evening. Tomorrow it's the turn of Ta$man with skills coach Gray Cornelius

Bryn Hall is a champion for staying in NZ so long.
At the risk of starting a war (or at least an 80s movie punch up)
, Bryn Hall was average at the Blues, he was lucky to be getting Super games back then. The object of your derision Weber's poor form this year would still be better than when Hall was chucking his pies around for the Blues.Definitely turned his game around at the Crusaders although has struggled to distance himself from Drummond - weird that Drummond has been an AB and Hall hasn't.
How close has Hall been though? Didn't he get named in an extended EOYT squad either for a game against Japan, or midweek game against a French selection?
I just assumed he had an ABs cap but Wiki didn't show one.
Hall and Drummond weren't in the All Blacks squad for the 2018 Northern Tour, but they were in an additional group of 19 players who were added for the game in and against Japan. TTT, who was in the main squad, started that game, and Drummond was named on the bench. Hall didn't play. After the Japan test, Hall joined the Maori All Blacks on their tour to Brazil and Chile, playing both games.
@Stargazer Pretty much what I recollected.

Does anyone know what preseason games are being played this weekend?
@Stargazer mentioned Auckland vs Hawkes, but what other games?

Ta$man squad to play Canterbury in Hanmer Springs below. Surprised to see Isi Tu'ungafasi in that squad; didn't someone on the Fern say he'd play for Canterbury?

@Stargazer Isi Tuúngafasi is a good acquisition.
With none of Wyatt Crockett, Tim Perry, Atu Moli or Kane Hames available this year, we were a bit light at loosehead prop!

Maybe we swapped him for Knewstubb!
Also good to see Segner featuring.

@Stargazer I believe he was signed by Canterbury, so guess they loaned him...

@Nepia The Vikings did beat Nelson Bays 90-21 so the season wasn't entirely a lost cause.
And Hawkes Bay beat Manawatu that year too so that was also good.
@Nepia @Number-10 I can remember going up from Wellington to that game in Palmy. Was bitterly cold that night and we absolutely thrashed them by about 60 points. Made the drive back to Wellington somewhat satisfying. The attendance was about 200 and there were only about ten of us spectators on the terrace side of the ground, just the one decked out in Black & White. Didn't have a seat cushion so the nether regions were somewhat chilled from the concrete! (Oh the days before the plastic seat bottom things were put into place) All things considered a very rewarding evening.
There was a little bit more as well in that HB was the only undefeated team all season. Played two won two, the other game was against either Poverty Bay or the Bush. No doubt thaqt NUmber 10 will be able to search through his records and confirm that significant accomplishment.. -

Isa Tu'ungafasi Loaned to Ta$man
Timoci Tavatavanawai is one to watch played for the Crusaders development side earlier in the year before covid.

You can hear from Gray Cornelius about the Ta$man squad and them having change in the front row

@Stargazer didn't realise that Dwayne Polataivao was heading down there.
He's been on our DrivingMaul show several times recently and didn't say anything!!!

Waikato and Taranaki do traditionally play each other in a preseason game so that could be happening this Sat in Oto, or somewhere halfway.

I wasn't far off with the venue. Now to find a Waikato team.
