@mariner4life I was merely pointing out that it was never going to happen. I wasn't saying that it shouldnt happen because i think so.
IMO the only way to bring them up to speed is with patient investment at the base over many years. Likely decades. You could probably make them a little more immediately competitive by investing in player recruitment (i.e. tap Twiggy money) but i don't think a quick fix will have lasting effects.

@Snowy i actually think thats the issue, nz rugby might at least be able to claim trying to achieve a genuinely competitive comp as the goal...but i dont think thats the end goal for RA, they was to grown/spread the sport and they believe more teams will achieve that

@mariner4life man - i never said they'd be good or succeed or anything else. I just said they won't 'cut' a team, specifically the Rebels. They will likely also not accept any comp that doesn't involve the Force if Twiggy is interested.
Sure, i don't think that cutting a team would necessarily benefit the other sides. I didn't say it would mean the Rebels or Force would get any better.

@Derpus Well, all of the Force's matches, and the Rebel's. Probably some of the others too as they won't be as good with the really good players scattered around a giant country.

If only it were that simple. The reality is to make them remotely competitive means parasitically leaching from the good teams, lowering their overall competitiveness. That's the last thing anyone wants.
BTW history has shown @Snowy wouldn't be the only person not watching.

It's hardly a bullying attitude that a lot of people would prefer a comp without an ordinary, not to standard team in a timezone another 2 hours past even the East coast of Australia, that is a 6 hour flight from NZ. Especially if that team was already cut because they offered fuck all, and was only "brought back" because you had no one else to play.

Watching 3 or 4 really good matches a week, full of talented players is enough. Like tests, I look forward to them. If rugby is to compete with all of the other sports it has to be,"quality".
I watch the grand slams in golf and tennis, not a lot else. The best players are there. That is why I watch. I want to see them, not the second raters.

It would be more than fine if this was just the problem. It's not, though. The problem is the dilution of talent across the three "traditional" Australian teams. I mean, you could actually have a really decent comp with 7-8 really strong and even teams, 1-2 toilers and then 1-2 whipping boys. I don't think anyone would care if there was guaranteed one lop-sided game a week, if the other 4 were tough and competitive affairs - it might make a nice change and make the for / against a battle within a battle.
The issue is really having 5 "middling" teams who are neither completely useless nor capable of actually winning against the best teams. At best, only 50% of your matches are competitive and the competition is basically all posturing until you get to the finals.

The Force are unlikely to get that much better (unless RA ditch the Rebels).
