I don’t understand why sponsors don’t want to attach their name to the current name - ASB Eden Park is much better than ASB Stadium and ASB get the same recognition - plus the kudos of the Fern.

Just like NPC, shouldn’t be ITM Cup, should be ITM NPC.

See, if they’d retained the name NPC I’d be more inclined to remember which building supplies company was the current sponsor!

Cardiff is still the Arms Park to me. Twickenham could be KFC stadium but it would still be Twickenham. Lancaster Park would be the same had it not been ruined.

I do hope that ASB would keep Eden Park though. ASB Eden Park works just fine for me. Otherwise you end up with ASB stadium at Eden Park like Pricipality stadium at Cardiff Arms Park.

But is it though? I get the ADIDAS thing on the AB brand but is that the case of a park? Because of the "brand"?

Operationally, Eden Park makes money - the loss is because of depreciation.

I thought they struggled to pay their debts and were always asking the council to write off their loans... which suggest a cashflow issue?

"Eden Park will sell the naming rights to the national stadium for one week - during the Bledisloe Cup later this month. ASB Bank has secured the temporary naming rights and plans to gift it to a struggling New Zealand business.

Eden Park's accounts are online as a registered charity - they lose money after depreciation is taken into account i.e. replacement costs of the assets. That's obviously a reasonable accounting point over the lifetime of the stadium, but they don't struggle to pay the running costs with the ticket sales in a normal year (Covid aside).

Was the other way round at Lancaster Park i.e. Jade Stadium at Lancaster Park. Commentators tried just calling it Lancaster Park at first, but got pulled into line by someone over it (for the obvious commercial reasons of not giving sponsors their money's worth) and it just became Jade Stadium over time.

Though, now that it's fucked apparently it is Lancaster Park again.
