Looked to me like Oz TH bored in and hooker also shoved diagonally left. Karl T in effect was peeled off. Some refs would penalise Wallabies for that, but because of the optics was surprised ABs weren't.

Karl packed crooked to start with - as a LHP you can't be at that angle on the engage because any forward momentum from that point makes you look bad.

Unless the ref is a screaming pile of incompetence.

Karl T won't make Bled 2, he was terrible off the bench. Hodgman should get the bench spot.

I don't disagree with any of that but must say that a fair deal of the booing right at the end would have been reactionary. The excitement and entertainment they paid for was cut off by a decision to take a draw. I would have been disappointed and let out a groan as well.

I took it as 50% booing the officials for not giving a penalty and 50% booing the Wallabies for not rolling over and dying like good little West Islanders 😉

That chip on your shoulder is really coming out this morning isn't it?

You're just shitty because you didn't win.

      I'm really not.

I'm disappointed but not surprised that we played shit. I'm also a little jealous of the Wallabies, especially their young forwards, being built by your coaching set up.

I still don't get how, after all these years and experience, the message hasn't got through to players about kicking when it is windy in the Caketin.
The best goalkickers there don't 'allow' for anything. Best option is to aim down the middle and let the swirl take it both ways. Hodge did that and was inches away from an incredible score.
With out of hand kicking keep it flat Jordie! WTF is with kicking high for distance against a swirling headwind!

But how good was that Aggies win over the Gators!!

Result! I watched a bit of Miami-Clemson ... Clemson just dismantled them, and Miami struggled to fire a shot. Defence got ripped.

            Aggies needed that win.

Only saw bits and pieces of the Clemson game, but watched them put away Virginia last week. Lawrence is steadily improving behind what I think is the best offensive line in the nation.

Clemson v Irish in a month’s time. Should be big.

Can't comment on the scrums - but, if you watch Big Karl in general play, he basically just takes up space.

Unless they're concerned about Hodgman's scrummaging, I'd put Alex on the bench next week.

i was seriously concerned about Karl in those final moments. When ever he was involved i thought there was a mild case for a penalty. He seemed to just flop sideways on the top of quite a few rucks. He really did add nothing

I need to watch those minutes again. Marshall was yelling for the ABs to be penalized a couple of times and at least once someone seemed to have flopped in from the side.

Funnily enough, I'm not sure quite what Karl got pinged for when he did get penalized. He did actually look like he'd got a clean steal - but, probably something was leaning on something. Needs another look.

It looked to me that Williams didn't want to make a game changing decision unless it was obvious to him and those last few hectic minutes when the play was helter skelter at either end he looked overwhelmed.

I though Koroibete must've been miles offside in the final turnover, but haven't watched it again to confirm. In the end I think the draw was a reasonable outcome for both teams.

@antipodean I thought Koroibete was offside by miles as well. On the other hand, Kart T flopping sideways throughout the final 5 minutes....... Seemed consistent.

Don't know if you heard the mic at the end but Cane was talking to Williams about the offside and he just said 'Sam, there was a lot going on from both sides through that'

As for Karl T's penalty, I think that was a genuine ref blunder. He called 'not rolling away' on the tackler but on replay the timing was fine. I guess he thought the tackler had impeded the placement offering KT the chance but the tackler did seem to get away very quick.

I need to watch those minutes again. Marshall was yelling for the ABs to be penalized a couple of times and at least once someone seemed to have flopped in from the side.

I thought so too, but you could argue in that final ruck the ball came out for a split second, which would allow him to attack it in the manner he did.

I was slightly aggrieved at the 'advantage over' call after Karl Ts knock-on. We advanced about 10m without a set backline/option, before turning it over. I didn't think we accrued any meaningful advantage from that.

That said I didn't think the ref made any particularly egregious decisions either way.

I was quite interested in the penalty advantage over call from a scrum. Frankly, I have no issue with it - but modern refs seem to let play run 20 bloody phases before blowing up. I don't like it in principle... if you're going to do that, allow 2-3 phases max, and then blow it up or call advantage over. Modern defences don't fall apart like they used to, so just running 10 phases doesn't mean an advantage.

@nzzp yeah some penalty advantages seem to go on for an age, and we know inside the 22 just keeps going until you score, they infringe again or you knock it on, going back to penalty.

@barbarian the ref didnt make any particularly egregious decisions either way, because he didn't make any decisions.

There were so many things he could've pulled up in that final 8 minutes (from both sides) and he just let it all happen - which i suppose made it more entertaining, but certainly not something for the purists.

Firstly congratulations to the Wallabies. Start of a new era for Australian Rugby.

Sadly the same can't be said for the AB's.

It's hard to talk about the AB's without it seeming like you are ignoring the quality performance by Oz but nevertheless - DUMB - DUMB- DUMB

We have learned nothing. Playing players out of position. Don't play as a team, lack of leadership (Cane was awesome with his follow me stuff but we seemed bereft of ideas). First you win the game - take the fucking droppie. Yet despite being unable to manufacture from anything other than broken play in 80 minutes we thought we would come up with a barnstorming finish to snatch victory as have so many times before. They must have missed the memo reminding them that the team that performed those sorts of heroics was stacked with all time greatrs whereas this mob - aren't.

Yeah the last seven minutes was gripping but we actually turned it over three times but luckily got it back. It summed up a brainless team who relied on individual flair rather than a team effort.

What did we learn? The hobbit's out of form. Did some good stuff on attack and defence because he's quick but pretty poor. Two slow wings. Rieko - yeah I can see why some cream themselves over him but it was a below par effort even before you throw in the show boating. Goodhue at 12 - please no. Mounga got worse as the game went on. Smith average. Loosies - dysfunctional. Only one lock showed up - which was sort of true of the fatties as well although they do push well.....

So the pack was average at beast and lost the collisions and the breakdown. Backs bordering on awful. Poorly organised. Startled chooks.

Aussie deserved to win by around 10 for me. We were lucky and on this performance are going to get a real hiding from someone soon unless we get over ourselves, play the best players in their rightful positions and concentrate on executing our core skills properly.

Was great to have test footy back though. Hope the team's performance on Sunday makes me look like a complete piston wristed gibbon for all the above
